What, no pics of the guy in the green shirt, with a beer in each pocket, one in hand, and another in his sling?????

Oh yeah, my race report, I hiked, I drank, I watched, I had as much fun as you can have when broken.

I dont know this kids name, but damn he has some serious balls.

    Denmo's 4x Race Report

After attempting to practice the Pro/Expert course on Friday I decided that my knee and I would opt to race 4x only this weekend. On Saturday I headed up for practice after lunch and found that the course was predominately tacky with a few puddles and a few really gooky spots. I attempted to practice and discovered that my knee was not ready for prime time. I stopped and stretched and pedaled up and down the fireroad for a while then headed up for more practice. Gate starts were brutal and pedaling was not my strong suit. Come race time it was cold and drizzling, but the rain held off for the most part. I was 2nd in both motos and gave it the best I could under the circumstances. Julia gave me a run for my money and is getting closer every race!!!

Roger just talked to Courtney, Blaine is doing fine. He has a badly sprained ankle and a thumb with 2 fractures.

Here's Blaine right before his crash.

Yeah thats Blaine, with my wrist out of comission, best thing I could do to help was catch anyone else coming over and play linebacker and keep more people from piling on top of the medics and Blaine. Only had to muscle one person from coming over. Thats the pic Andy put up

speaking of which, I forgot my 4X RR.

decided to do my 1st 4X race. got in the second gate of my class, with Tom and another guy who I did not recognize. got gated by tom big time, but kept an edge on the other man. tom railed the middle-high line, but I went for the nutty aggressive lo-high line, and came out just ahead of him. he had a better gear, and slightly more momentum so he ended up getting ahead by about a bike (check the pics on page one). heard the guy behind me charging, so I kept the hammer down, down low-high on the 3rd turn, and almost got Tom again, but got a nice drift going that got me nowhere.

got crossed up heading to the lower section, and the guy behind me passed me on the inside of the turn. tried I did, but I was tired and sloppy by then, and ended up losing by about a half bike length.

oh well, knocked out in my first moto is a bit of a bummer, but I'll live. had a fun time chilling with roger at the finish line and laughing at sandbaggers ;)

things I need: more practice on the fontana gate, and snapping gates in general (I prefer slingshots, but there's no room on that gate :( ). also am seeing the benefits of a geared setup for 4X. at the very least, I need to try an easier gear for accelerating out of corners.

good times though. and a belated thanks to all the people that heckled me personally on my DH run. it's always nice to have people yell at you :wave:

The morning of the race was stressful. My mom looked outside and said "I don't think so". I shared a text from Bflofoxrider urging me to race. It may have worked because she said "okay". Of course she also said... As soon as I got the "okay" I loaded the bike. Thank goodness I changed the tires early in the morning, otherwise she may have said a serious "no". I seriously stressed on the way to Fontana as it was raining on the way. It's cool she didn't turn back home.

The race was fun as always. My first run I slipped my pedals twice. The second run was much better. At one point I was in the lead and then it was over for me. It's that dumb second turn and the closeness of two excellent racers beside me. Denmother is an excellent challenge for me. I love racing with her.;)
