i haven't been to the middle east, but i've been to oklahoma city. maybe we could practice by shutting down domestic terrorists before we start indiscriminately dropping bombs on other countries.

Collective punishment is a war crime, by the way.

:-({|= I love Americans who defend terrorists and their supporters... I love it when you justify their behavior; threatening people for speaking their minds. Maybe you should move over to the middle east so you can be with your brethren, because here in the United States, we don't tolerate intimidation and threats. This country was founded on the principle of refusing to be pushed around and it has been it's guiding force, making this the greatest nation on earth. Why don't you go sympathize somewhere else?

not when people "peacefully" protest near the white house in national (i.e., government) parks with assault rifles and threaten violence...

Or what, you're going to man up and beat his ass for speaking his mind? Do you not see what side of the problem/solution equation you're siding on with this kind of attitude?

If people don't consider all possibilities, they don't learn or progress.

No, I'm not going to man up and beat his ass. He can speak his mind all he wants. So can I. That's what makes this country great. Besides, it wouldn't change his opinion.

What are the non-violent possibilities that I should consider? Please enlighten me... give me 3-5 solutions for effectively dealing with religious extremists who threaten people with death for the act of self expression.

Perhaps you missed my suggestions earlier in the thread. I recommended neutron bombs and reproductive viruses. I also served, and am personally responsible for the destruction and deaths of many of these unfortunately misguided people you so easily dismiss. So as for peaceful solutions, you're asking the wrong guy.

You either choose to live in peace, or you don't. John Lennon wrote imagine, Gandhi starved, and aggressive arseholes still act like aggressive arseholes. What, you think you can do better than John Lennon? It's been tried. In most societies, you wait for the brain-stem thinkers to eventually progress, and put up with their BS til they do. In this case, that's not gonna work, because they've got an organized system in place keeping them locked in a cycle of increasing assholishness. Though we can help, only they can break that cycle themselves. But, we cannot afford to sit around putting up with their BS until they do. Thus, our present situation.

As long as none of you are deciding policy, or holding a trigger, you might as well discuss every angle of what you're considering, sympathetic, condemning, all of it. No, not "might as well", make that a strong "really should".

    So, just to recap:

1-South Park makes fun of Mohammed.
2-An idiot with a website makes a veiled threat at the creators of the show.
3-Call for mass murder of Muslims.
4-Some people say, "Hey, mass murder is wrong!"
5-You tell those people that they need to move to the middle east (so you can get everyone at once, i guess?)
6-Toss in a bunch of jingoism at the end.
    7-Profit!

Unless it is our own government and corporations doing it to us - as we say "thank you, may we have another".

Freedom of Speech is still losing. The Washington Post pulled a cartoon that didn't show Mohammed.

    excerpts from WP's ombudsman

They were concerned it might offend and provoke some Post readers, especially Muslims.

Still, Style editor Ned Martel said he decided to yank it, after conferring with others, including Executive Editor Marcus W. Brauchli, because "it seemed a deliberate provocation without a clear message." He added that "the point of the joke was not immediately clear" and that readers might think that Muhammad was somewhere in the drawing.

By oversight the cartoon appeared on WP's website.

Moslems will have civilization revert back to the 15th century, if they have their way. Let them be offended.

    Geert Wilders for president...
