this is a viable option: commit to an amount and only pay if it comes to fruition: count me in!

I'm willing to donate, however the idea of sending money to an unconfirmed, unproven cause is very unappealing...

At Interbike, I sat in one the IMBA Bike Park seminar. Their model, of course, is Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, which is huge, but there are smaller bike parks springing up all over the place. No, most aren't gravity-oriented, but many include pump tracks and skills areas. And many of these parks are public. The Southwest regional rep said he's been approached by both Riverside and San Diego about bike parks there.

One of the most interesting things I heard was about liability: "Not an issue." Apparently liability is the least of the problems facing public bike parks. They have it figured it out and IMBA has successfully defended itself against every lawsuit brought against them. The bigger issues are resistance from public officials ("but... but... we only have 300 baseball fields! We need more! More I say!"), land and funding. OC now has its own chapter of IMBA to put our case to the public officials. There are a lot of bike shops and bike companies in OC that would benefit from having their name on a bike park. Now, if we only had a large expanse of land that was going to be developed into a park in the future....

Nah... never mind. OC needs more baseball fields and soccer fields.
