So if anyone else was following the Facebook page for socal bike park (allegedly set to build a bike park somewhere in the southland), the page is apparently now gone...anyone know if this plan is now kaput?

The whole thing was a joke. IMHO. Just another d bag getting our vulnerable hopes for a bike park in socal up for nothing. I followed it for a long while. It was stupid. They would post random pictures of hill sides and say things like "can you see your lines yet?"

I'll believe in a bike park when I can pay and ride it.

Land would be too expensive, I think thats why the location that the supposed SoCal bike park seemed legit.

I was up at Baldy in August for the Big Horn Music Festival when I saw these stunts behind one of the stages that actually ran into a run with jumps that lead to the bottom of a ski lift. I was talking to the promotions director and told him, "Why don't you guys make a full on MTB park? Socal really needs one badly and Baldy is in a perfect location." He informed me that the owners son is a MTBer and he's the one who built the bike park. I understand why they wouldn't want people riding the skinnies (too much of a liability) but they could make the resort more bike friendly and promote it more. They would probably make a killing because they are the easiest to get to and I know the MTB community is itching a local park.

Hell, I would be happy if they just started it.

Who have you been talking to? Is it from anyone creditable who is actually in the know or is it just rumors?

I rode Baldy earlier this year and thought it was pretty fun. I talked to the manager up there and they would like to do more "park" like trails but don't have the permits to cut any new trails so they are adding features/berms/jumps to their existing beginner slope which has a perfect grade for those types of things. I was there on opening day and they were still finishing some ramps and starting on a few new things - definitely encouraging to see someone at least making an effort to get a close-to-home bike park.

At Interbike I spoke to one of the ops managers from Snow Summit. He told me that they are working on getting new trails put in for next year (three trails, I think he mentioned), but didn't have the details on what type of trails (DH, XC, FR, etc). So something is definitely happening. Like everyone else, I'll be happy to see something.

Our efforts to get a municipal bike park in Glendale are still on the table, but considering the Glendale parks department has laid off all the people we were working with in the past two years we haven't made any progress. If some benefactor or sponsor were to come in with a large sum of money to fund the park, it could still happen.

I do think the plans are there but I just won't belive until it happens. I know there is a chance they will chnage their mind all of sudden.

Yeah, my brother lives 15 min from Duthie...absolutely love that place! Ryan's line has sooo much flow, especially for how small the park is!

If only all the lurkers, members of all the SoCal Mtb community could deposit at least 20$ into a bonofide fund for costs needed to make a Mtb park somewhere in SoCal would make a financial difference IMO.

The SoCal mtb park FB page was posted by a real individual. I found out who he was when he closed the page. He has not stopped his efforts. But he was compelled to remove the page so long as he wants to remain annonomous. It will pop back up when/if he's ever ready to go public.
