It would save you some weight. But don't listen to Klutter, he'll have you riding a CX bike on the Holy Jims next too.

its honestly not that bad, i am definitely a lot slower than usual with the rigid fork, but it is humbling to go down the same trails with no suspension. 5 oaks wasn't as bad as i thought it would be

    Bike is 99% complete

I'll post pics once all the adjustments are made and a list of parts later. I finished installing the brake cables and the chain this evening but I am having a heck of a time adjusting the chain tensioner. I reversed the internal spring since it does a better job pushing up rather than down. Unfortunately, I can still derail the chain on random occasions just hucking a curb. I double checked the seating of the spring, the direction of the spring, c-clip, the way it's mounted, double checked the mounting of the rear wheel/skewers, and removed enough links to take out the slack but it just doesn't quite provide enough tension. I might have to take it to a shop. Any suggestions?

I rode it around for about 20 minutes. I have to admit just getting a 22t started is not bad but I can see the pain going up a hill. Oury grips are soft and amazing. I wish I had these on my old bike. The rebuilt Marz fork is nice and soft, the Marin frame feels pretty stiff, brakes need to be adjusted a tad for a better bite, it feels super light and I can corner it like a mofo. On small hucks I just have to remind myself I'm back on an H.T. frame. I'm certaintly spoiled by my full squish I.H. bike.

The tensioner is moving too much. You need to use a cone wrench and an allen wrench to increase the spring tension so the tensioner really is locked in the up position. The trick is to do this w/out breaking the spring in the singelator.

    Almost

OK guys its almost done. I ran into a few issues that im working on. My chain would rub the metal hoop on the tensioner. I ended up taking off the pulley to get rid of the hoop. Do I really need this on there:?:? Seems fine without it.

When I get my camera back ill be posting up the finished bike.

You've heard of vapor-ware, and single-speed... This is the newest trend in cycling: vapor-speed.

    Sorry Coleko...

I took my budget SS out to Fullerton last night. Aside from a problem with a cable stop (my thigh isn't happy), the bike worked perfectly.

For those of you who rode last night, I was the guy on the brown-ish Sycip. Mounted on the front was a semi-functional 2000 Xvert Air.

Btw, a 32x21 was the PERFECT gear for me.

    Haha, I am teh slow.

Seriously though, I got to spinning out several times, but that only happened a handful of times. It was nice to clean [most] every climb and cruise most of the ride. I would definitely want a higher gear for a timed lap, but not for the pace of the Thursday night ride.

Do you ride the same gear elsewhere? Aliso, San Juan ,etc.

Pics will be coming within the next week or so. My digi cam broke last June and I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on a replacement.

I have never ridden at El Moro. Is it decent? You'll have to show me around once I fix the Sycip's front brake.

It's a nice ride next to the Ocean. Fire roads and single track. Let me know when you want to ride.
