Hey I found this wheelset its 90 bucks. http://www.blueskycycling.com/product465_54_-Shimano-Deore-Disc-Wheelset-W-Sun-Rhyno-Lite-Rims.htm
This is a really cool thread for members that what to build a SS and a great way to find and pass on deals
I have a 19" Performance Access HT frame w/ Forte tensioner I will GIVE to someone looking to build a SS. Only catch is you gotta find a way to pick it up.
Coleko, Foo and I were talking about which rings to run. Are you planning 2:1 or something different? I have a feeling we might go 22 in the rear cause we gotta break ourselves in before going to a 16.
Im starting with a 20 in the back. Then work my way down from there. My thinking is that a 22 will cause you to spin to much.:?:
coleko: we rode with my buddy today who i regard as a billy goat in terms of his riding abilities...he was running 20 rear cog today and he was suffering hard...
I think you guys are underestimating yourselves 22t will be great on the climbs, but way to much spin on the flats to be any fun. You might have to getoff the bike and push at certain areas, but starting off with a 20t will be a good compromise. Besides running a taller gear will only make you stronger right? I also run 180mm cranks on both my SSs. 5mm over standard cranks doesn't seem like a lot, but there is a noticible difference in leverage on the climbs for me.
Hopefully the suffering wont be that bad[-o-] I was thinking about 180s but ill be sticking with 175 length cranks. I run 175s on my geared hardtail and they feel good when im out of the saddle climbing.
Thanks 1FG rider!! He hooked me up with the following for the SS project: Mavic 225 wheels, Cannondale hubs, and skewers Shimano chain tensinor Marz 130mm '01 fork rebuilt Hayes HMX1 mechanical brakes :bang::bang:for 100 bucks!
If I didn't get rid of those parts I may have been tempted to build another bike, which I really don't need. Have fun with the build! Just let me know when the bike is done and we'll break it in.
Will do! We should schedule a SS ride with you, Foo, Coleko, and anyone else that wants to get in on the SS painful fun!
I'll join you. I promise to find a gear and leave it for the entire ride. Call it my ghetto singlespeed. Like I said, count me in!
