Thinking of doing XC for the first time at Southie. Hmm, after everything I ate on Superbowl Sunday I should just about qualify to race with Neil and Maxwell in the Clydes division.

    .....excuses, excuses.....

I'm pretty sure I might be there......

...if the dirt in my ant farm gets changed and I finish rotating the air in my road bikes tires and my taxes are done and the fish get fed and aw jeez I still feel kinda sick still and there's something about doing laps that early in the morning that makes the covers way to heavy to lift and the pillow changes to a soft magnet and sucks the metal plate in my head down tight on the mattress and stuff and junk.

Now that I've comeplety jinxed myself, I'm off to buy some lottery tickets......8-[

In years past, you did not have to be a SRC member to qualify for the Winter Series overalls. You DO have to be a member to qualify for the full season overalls (Winter Series, Nationals, Challenge).

Regarding the series points, if you moved up to expert, your sport points aren't thrown out per se. You will remain in the standings in the sport class for the points you earned there. However, you don't get to bring any sport points up with you.

Not sure, people ride the course all day, so as long as it's not during official "practice" you should be fine. I will be doing the same thing. Gonna try out a DS bike in the morning before practice.

Just print up the Geoladders directions. There are 3 differences:

Instead of going down the steep loose sandy descent you continue to the left. I believe that sign is fairly permanent. Another one is right on the descent after the fire road next to the DH usual start. It's not a big deal if you ride the old way, but again, I think there's a sign or something closing down the old trail. Third is instead of going down the cement culvert at the very far end you take the dirt. It's marked/noted.

Thanks, I'll try that. Guess it's time to put the cyclocomputer back on the bike.

I don't believe they enforce this, since there has been at least one guy on the podium running a singlespeed. I don't know if they would actually follow UCI rules, which allow singlespeeds. But who knows, since SRC has its own set of unwritten rules.

There is no official 4X practice. There are times during the day when you can't ride the whole course, but you can ride the top section. After the XC races, they open the entire course to everyone, but be aware, though, after opening the course, they may suddenly close the lower section of the course without announcing it, and you may find your self riding into some ribbon. Not that I actually ran into the ribbon (my brakes worked well enough) but I saw several others.

They offer zero control of the 4X course, except announce that everyone must have a helmet when on the course. Be careful of locals on beach cruisers and Wal-Mart BMX bikes.

For those who are racing 4X, it's recommended that you stay near the 4X area from noon on. At any time without any prior announcements, they will call for a rider's meeting that shall begin within a couple minutes. This could happen anywhere from 1:00 to 3:30. They may say during the rider's meeting to go to the top of the hill to start racing. Racing will begin likely within an hour or two while they figure out who's actually registered. If it's like the previous two races, they may realize that they didn't set up their registration system properly, and they'll assign everyone new numbers/plates. Ask your friends and family to be patient, because despite the appearance that SRC has never run a 4X race before, supposedly they've been doing it for years.
