Hey guys, I was planning on having my Sherman’s overhauled and was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to take it? I've heard that you can drop it off at a dealer and they can send it to Manitou in Valencia to be refurbished as well, but does anyone know what the cost would run? I want to replace the seals, oil, and put in a firm or X-firm spring.
Call up Answer in Valencia and see if they can do it for you. I know that you can do that with Marzocchi (who are also in Valencia). Worth a shot.
Im pretty sure you could do it yourself. I read some where that "evil genius" seals are what a lot of people are using to replace the stock seals. Then, go to a motorcycle shop and get some Golden Spectro oil, either 5w, 7.5w or 10w depending on your liking. Maybe try using the 10w oil and see if that helps before putting an extra firm spring in. I changed the oil and the spring in my z1 that i just sold. I was blowing through the travel way too fast, the firm spring did to wonders to eliminate that, but the small bump sensitivity deminished and I then put in some 5w oil and that helped bring the forks small bump sens. back to life.
The "evil genius" seals are the stock seals in newer Manitou forks. Enduro seals are what you are thinking of.
they have seal kits n springs at http://aebike.com/site/ and most Manitou small parts. Shhh! its my lil secret website and the place also sells small parts for Avid, Hayes, etc. Great if youre a DIY.
