I was reading the course description for the XC race and it states 3500 ft of climbing per lap. Just checking to see if that is accurate? anybody know?

    Dog Policy

Sorry, dogs are not allowed in the Festival, including the racing areas. This will be strictly enforced.

The only area at Laguna Seca where dogs, properly leashed, will be allowed—although not recommended—is at the campsites. For details, please refer to the Dogs at Campsites—Rules and Regulations page under “Camping” in the “Where to Stay” section of our website.

    Local Resources
Kennels. Non-residents attending the Sea Otter Classic may wish to take advantage of one of the many local kennels that offer boarding for your pet. Animal Friends Rescue Project offers a resource list of area kennels.

Pet-Friendly Lodging Providers. Non-residents who prefer to lodge with their pet, and are seeking an alternative to camping at Laguna Seca, will be glad to know that some lodging providers who offer discounted rates to Sea Otter visitors are also pet-friendly, including Hyatt Regency, Monterey; Los Laureles Lodge, Carmel Valley; and Mariposa Inn and Suites, Monterey. Beyond those lodging providers, you will also find this resource helpful: the SPCA of Monterey County’s list of pet-friendly lodging providers.

Playing around Monterey County. If you are looking forward to also visiting other Monterey County recreational areas during Sea Otter week—perhaps including a walk on the beach!—check out the SPCA’s list of pet-friendly recreation areas. You’ll learn which beaches allow leashed dogs, which allow them to run free, and other useful information. Hot tip: If Carl and Daisy are hoping to make some new canine friends, they’ll find Carmel Beach is dog heaven!

DH course update #13 of 21: Jump onto lower traverse - The jump here is a good start, but we want to embellish the landing a little bit. Take off is all good. We'll bring the landing slightly closer so beginning riders have a goal that is attainable, and we'll create a small down slope landing to give a reward to pro level riders who jump farther.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 15-17, 2011

ALL-NEW CATEGORIES 1/2, and 3 COURSES in 2011, with distinct courses for each of the race categories. Pre-ride/course inspection is available on all courses beginning Wednesday April 13 at 12noon. You must have your race number on your bike to pre-ride/inspect either the CAT 3 or CAT1/2 course. Pre-ride/inspection times are as follows - CAT1/2/3 Wednesday 12noon - 6pm/CAT1/2/3 Thursday 8am -6pm/CAT 2/3 Friday 8am-12noon/ CAT2/3 Saturday - 8am-6pm (some sections will be closed due to the UCI PRO XC races).
    • Category 3 course - all age categories and both men and women. In 2011, you will finish near the Dual Slalom, but we have eliminated the grassy climbs just before the finish. Check out the map, turn by turn directions- 16.1 mile course with a few new trails and few of last years trails included. Check out the maps and profiles below!
    • Category 1 and 2 course - this is a very challenging course. It combines all the components of a great ride - lots of singletrack, ample passing on the double track/fire roads and close 3500' of climbing (per lap). The 2011 CAT 1/2 cross country course includes a long singletrack climb up the famous "Goat" Trail - TR 41 - something never done in the 21 years of Sea Otter! The first few miles of the course remain the same as in 2010 - Lookout Ridge Road - BUT instead of descending on TR 50 you will now proceed to the "Wall" - this may become a hike-a-bike pending trail conditions transitioning into the descent down TR49 - a fun, fast, flowing tight singletrack section. We are using the famous "Ewok" Trail again - TR43 - except this year you will be climbing up to Three Sisters Road. Finally, we added the newest trail to the Fort Ord Trail system in the CAT1/2 course- TR36. This singletrack trail is a ton of fun-a twisty, tight descending trail through the eucalyptus trees. In 2011 all racers will finish near the Dual Slalom, but we have eliminated the grassy climbs just before the finish. Check out the map, turn by turn directions - remember CAT 1's (except 50 and older categories) will complete TWO laps of the course for a total 39.8 miles. CAT 1 50 years and older categories and ALL CAT 2 racers complete ONE lap of the course for a total of 19.9 miles.
Schedule changes for 2011: Both Category 2 and Category 3 races are on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. Professional men and women compete on the same short venue course as in 2010, but in prime time on Saturday: women will start at 11:45 a.m. and men at 2:00 p.m.

I might be coming to this. I have a DH team (about 8 kids, but only 4 or 5 are going) that should be going to this. I just have to make sure shops good for that weekend.

    From post #19 (source http://www.seaotterclassic.com/index.cfm/big_air_bag.htm):

    Big Air Bag

Straight from the epicenter of the freeriding world of mountain biking comes the Camp of Champions Mountain Bike Camp Big Air Bag. With top pros as your coach, learn to make those jumps like a pro. You’ll go home feeling like champion and counting the days until you can attend the Mountain Bike Camp in Whistler. Ken Achenbach, founder and camp director of the Camp of Champions, says “The Big Air Bag is the next progression in mountain biking. It takes the learning curve and turns it into an arrow pointed UP. It's going to be amazing seeing everyone lose their minds at Sea Otter when they get to "Hit the Bag”.

Bike valet service/bike corral is available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. At those times, you may drop off your bike and walk away with a claim check, knowing your bike is under the watchful eyes of the bike valet attendants. For 2011, the bike valet parking will be in a new location: in the Paddock Parking area right next to the Expo entrance. Look for "Expo Entrance" and "Bike Valet" on the Festival Map.
