I just saw on the news HWY 79 from Beaumont to Hemet closed due to dust storm. Southbound I-15 is closed at Hwy 79 South/Front St in Temecula. They didn't say anything about HWY 79 from Temecula to Hemet.
Latest update off the web/north county fire radio net is that between Poway Rd south to Scrips Poway Prkwy has still not issued an evacuation. Poway Rd north to RB and Scrips Poway south to Miramar is all getting forced out. So that means Sycamore Canyon area is being cleared out. Mark - Sorry to hear about the threat to your home. If I can do anything please let me know. Doug - Happy to know you made it home safe bro. Brian - so sorry to hear the fire is in your area too. Let me know if you or your family need anything. When I worked outside I worked in the Ranch. That place is like a match box. I heard it was headed that way, I know it isn't going to be good.
Well, I'm still down with my family at my sister's house. It is amazingly peaceful in south SD. We've seen quite a bit more footage of my apartment complex throughout the day, and we aren't holding out breath. We've already started to come to peace with what has happened, and are prepared for the worst. Knowing that we are alive, safe and with family is #1 right now. I honestly can't even begin to tell those that have called me how much it means...if I started crying on the phone with you I apologize. I'm planning a nighttime by-foot ninja assault on the area either tonight or more likely tomorrow to survey the area for myself (w/ my sister's fiancee too) I'd take pictures for you, but my camera is most likely melted. Must not give up the sense of humor now... Take care everyone. I'll check in later.
Mark--Glad to hear from you again. I tried calling you back after our call was dropped and kept getting the "All circuits busy" recording. Be careful and stay safe.
Yeah, I tried calling you back too and just got a dead line...sort of unnerving--especially since you were telling me that "I'm getting my family out of here, about 10 minutes ago-----<dead>" Glad to hear you are ok too.
It seems STR is the only way we're able to stay in touch--the phone lines are all jammed. Keep me updated bro, I'll be checking off and on all night. Here's a good site for SD fire info: http://www.sdcountyemergency.com/
Just got home and got the family all pack up and ready to leave if need, voluntary evacuantion in my neightborhood (Eastlake-Rolling Hills in Chula Vista) for now, hope it all will be a scare only. Best wishes to all afected by this. Jose- Bajamtnbkr
I live in Oceanside, but am a little worried I might have to move. UCSD classes were canceled and La Jolla had a little dust storm. Who know's what will happen next.
Just talked to a friend in Escondido. Here's some SD news for those of us not able to get SD news channels. Fires are 0% contained and are still expected to get even worse than better. The entire town of Fallbrook is under mandatory evacuation and many structures in the south part of town have already been lost. The fire is expected to hit the Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach, Leucadia and possibly Del Mar areas by tonight or tomorrow. To all SD peeps: If any info I posted is incorrect--PLEASE correct me. Thanks.
Doug - Not to say you're wrong but it doesn't match what I'm seeing here in San elijo Hills. The road back into the community opened up this afternoon around 3pm. Based on what I'm seeing on the news, the Discovery Hills fire is 100% contained but still burning. I have friends in Solana area and their mandatory evacuation has been canceled and they are returning home.. Obviously the wind is the main factor and no one knows what will happen but as of now, 7.06pm, people in San Marcos and to the west are back at home. maurice
Chula Vista According to Mayor Cox, the fire has jumped the break set up near Proctor Valley Rd...Bellalago area is under mandatory evacuation now.
New Mandatory Evacuation... Del Mar area south of Del Dios Highway, North of Sorrento Valley Road and West of Black Mountain Road to the ocean.
I posted this earlier, but it's worth another post. The UT has a fire blog going that they're updating quite frequently with new information as it comes in: http://sosdfireblog.blogspot.com/
Here is a video stream of KGTV if you want to keep up to date online and here is an audio stream of KPBS.
