Dan worked wilderness fire in Wyoming some years ago. During the Cedar, he had a lung infection so couldn't work/volunteer. Now, he has to go out of town to Bakersfield for work. Fire is burning areas untouched by the Cedar...fresh fuel.
From my house in Oside I have the fortunate ability to have clear skies. BUT, I can see, and smell the smoke from BOTH the RB fire and OC fires. Very interesting indeed. ONCE AGAIN- if anyone needs a place to go, my doors are open!
We've also got some blue-ish skies, but smoke is everywhere.. The truck this morning was covered in a layer of fine dirt/ash.. Lots of wind blowing stuff around. Hopefully the wind dies down SOON.
They just showed 8 seperate fires in SD county, alot of people starting evacuate to Qualcomm stadium.
I just went out front and took these... This is towards Sycamore Canyon. I'm less than a mile from the trail. This one is towards Mtn Woodson. Which is about 5 miles away.
I know we have a pocket of clear sky's between those two points which are South and North respectively. We are thinking about hang for the call before we leave. We have a shelter less than a mile down the road so I'm thinking if they keep it open we might just hang. They closed the high school due to air quality. But the air is OK you don't really smell it indoors and out side its the dust and ash that are the biggest annoyance. I texted Doug he is watching the Rainbow fire now. So I assume no evacuation or anything for him or his family in Fallbrook.
Here is the Union Tribune Firestorm Blog that is up to date. Website sometimes goes down, but is updated quite frequently. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/fireblog/index.html News 7 http://www.nbcsandiego.com/index.html
We have a weird halo of smoke around our neighborhood in Scripps, kind of weird. When you look straight up, it's clear blue sky, but if you look up north (we live up the hill overlooking the 15) it's pretty dark. Pretty spooky. Very similar to the fire 4 years ago. Everyone be safe.
I just looked out my windows and I'm starting to see big smoke plums towards mt woodson/Ramona. So going to get the family and get in line to hurry up and wait. stay safe everyone...
Yep get out & rent a hotel if it is close to your house. My Aunt's house burned down in Cedar Fire located in Scripps Ranch & was not prepared then. I just called her & her car is all packed & she rented a hotel room for a couple of days, she is not taking any chances again.
I heard earlier that it's fairly difficult for them to reverse call cell phones. Land lines are pretty easy because they know where you are, but cell phones are not as easy. Not to say people aren't getting them, but they may not be as reliable as those to land lines.
Fire evacuations All, I have 3 spare bedrooms, room for bikes, kids, pets, etc. Please just give a shout if you need a place to stay. I am in South County but it will be cheaper (FREE) and more comfortable than a hotel! Cell is 254.541.4647 Kevin Revision: Oh!! AND there is COLD Sierra Nevada is the fridge!!!
SD Fire..... I dont think anyone is going to be riding Hodges or daley anytime soon. Hodges is up in fire and Daley is next. Many people and homes are in danger... Just incase you havent watched the news... Lets hope everyone is ok. The air quality is really bad and they are saying unless you need to be outside, dont be. We dont want anyone with respiratoy problems. everyone be safe!
The wind seemed to have died down for a while, but it seems to have picked up again, maybe more to the West? We were planning on going to my parents' house in Fullerton, if we need to evacuate, but I'm not really sure if we'll be able to get over to the 5. Plus it sounds like there are some fires in the OC that we might have to cotend with on the way up there.
