Rode the SART from post office to South Fork. It was fantastic! Only 1 stream crossing that was a challenge, and we added a couple extra logs to make it more passable. Great work by dstepper's gang on trail maintenance!

Did you all ride the log over just before the water crossing?

We did ride the log-over. Nicely engineered!
Here's a pic of the water crossing with the new logs added.
The upper section of SART is in great shape.

Hi folks, I'm really wanting to ride the approx. 31 mi. loop on this trail, as described on the mtnbikebill.com website. Are these sections you guys have been working on, part of all that? Also, are there any reasons why this trail might not be good for a night ride? Thanks!

Not a loop but a out and back and yes it is described on MTB Bills site. Post Office Section is ridable. The section just after Middle Control not good so drop down Middle Control and pick the SART back up. To first water crossing OK.

I will be out there Saturday AM on Glass Road to clear sections that we did not get to last time out. Reports are that it is mostly clear which would be great...maybe we can get in some riding this time.

Dams should be built on the upstream side of a crossing. It's a mystery why people think a deeper crossing is a better crossing.

    SART update 5/29

We went out today to do trail work from Glass Road to Southfork Campground and someone had already done all the work including benching the trail in the tight spots. Excellent work whom ever.

As a member of STUPIDASS we deem the trail 100% rideable and safe. All dangerous stunts, rocks and logs have been removed for your safe riding..so go out there and enjoy.

Rode SART on July 3rd, the first creek-crossing from Middle Control towards Glass Rd is still fairly deep....was easier to just remove shoes and socks and get across barefoot.....the next crossing was doable using the log bridges........some mud here and there......the trail is in excellent shape right now......the best I've seen it in the last couple of years......

I'm planning to do the Mt. Bike Bill route (I think this is it http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=24155) this weekend. Previously it had been mention that the section just after Middle Control was not good. I'm assuming from the previous post that the entire trail is good to go? Any additional updates/info you would impart on a first-time SART rider?

I just rode that same route 24155 last Monday 7/5. My first time. We rode from Post office up to top and back down. The trail was great. The large water crossing was flowing, the normal log bridge was covered by about 6" of water. I notices up stream about 20 ft, were a larger set of logs you can use to cross and keep dry. I this this on the way back and it worked. Did no see them on the way up.

    First Time on SART

I rode SART (first time) today and it was totally awesome. I saw it included on a list of "flowy" trails on another post and it lived up to the hype. The trail is in great shape. So much undulating single track with no one around.

I saw this guy on the side of the trail. I Googled it and believe it's a San Diego Mountain Kingsnake.

Water crossings are all passable with the assistance of log bridges. If you have good balance you can complete the ride with dry shoes.

The bugs are kind of crazy. During the ride I was wondering if the same bugs were drafting off me and harassing me at each stop or if there are truly so many bugs that every time you stop you get swarmed by new ones.

This is the second wknd. in a row for me and today was way bitchin because later in the day it rained real good. Umm, does the trail smell sooo fine when wet.

For what it's worth, spraying OFF on your helmut before ride helps and then I use a lotion lightly applied called cutter on whatever parts, lower legs and nose and ears that keeps them at bay.

As always, the s/t dropped from post office is......AWESOME.....WOOTWOOT. So dang BEAUTIFUL up there right now and the food at 7Oaks afterwards is yummy too.

I ride the SART frequently and the bugs only bother me on the climbs when you are going at their speed. I went down to Walmart and bought one of those bug hats that you can just slip over your helmet on the climbs. It has an elastic bottom so it seals against your neck and the mesh is thin enought that you can see out of, get ventilation and you can also take a swig of water through it. As long as you are using a bottle. I am sure you can take a swig of water from a bite valve also. It stores compact and offers some relief from those little persistent bastards. When you are ready for the downhill just take it off and throw it in your jersey pocket. I find it most useful as I am heading up Middle Control Road as I seem to be going the perfect speed for the bugs to fly around your face, fly in between your glasses and eye, suck em into your mouth, try to spit them back out .
