I am headed to Big Bear tomorrow for my Father-in-law's birthday and was wondering the same thing. Are any of the trails in the Big Bear Area rideable yet?

I've been riding SART every year since about 2002, and based on experience I would say there are probably downed trees and/or tree limbs from the winter storms......so even if there is no snow you could probably expect some hike a bike......usually SART isn't really "ready" until about early to mid-July....

I've been riding there since 2000 and it's usually May sometime before you can ride it unless we have a longer winter which it's turning out to be.Snow down to below 5000 is expected next week. But like has been posted already there will be a lot of deadfall on the trail. I'm not sure when it gets officially cleared but some riders start doing it themselves as we ride it.

Good luck if you go and give us an update to conditions if you go.

I was there on Monday and it turned out to be as much walking as riding the first 3 miles coming down from Angelus Oaks. That was all the uphill from there anyway, once you get around to the south side of the mt. it cleared up for the downhill hill slide to the 38 at Lock Levin. It was fairly overgrown as well, maybe they could get a DUI roadside troop up there and bushwack enough room for us bikers. Personally I rather enjoyed the extra challenge of trying to fit through holes WHILE trying to stay on the mt. Add darkness and big cat or bear tracks and you have yourself quite the backwoods scenerio.#-o Let's just say I spent alot of time scanning my surroundings. What section are you trying to ride?

A buddy of mine rode SART today between Glass Road and Angelus Oaks and he said the trail was in really bad shape......he counted over 30 trees blocking the trail, lots of washouts, and the creek crossings were still pretty deep........other than that, he said it was a fun ride.....

I am thinking about heading up Saturday AM with my bow saw and hand saw to see the conditions. Maybe drop in behind the Post Office and see how things are.

I plan on riding up that way next week sometime. I'm doing Morton Peak first and maybe later in the week I was thinking of climbing from Loch Leven. I'll let you know what shape those sections are in.

Scott, Lynn and I did some SART work today. We removed maybe a dozen trees but had to leave some of the bigger ones behind.

We started at the Post Office and did the second dropin. the trail is a great shaped and you will only need to stop for a couple of down tress. The bigger ones we could not remove have been cleaned up to make it easy to get over or under them.

Once we got to Middle Control Road to the SART section on the other side of the road is totally blown out, large tree in the middle of the trail and the water came straight down the trail...it will take most of a day to fix that one small section.

So we dropped down Middle Control road to just above Pinezanita and picked up the SART where it follows the old Forsee Creek Road. Removed few more trees and made a log over just before the water crossing... which is where we stopped work and turned around.

In a couple of weeks I will head out and work on the Glass Road and Southfork sections.

By the way it was very warm out there today was in the mid 70's most of the day.

I still haven't ridden SART, and can't think of a better intro than to pitch in on some work. If the schedule works I'd be glad to come help.
