The SRP is closed untill repairs can be made from the recent rains. Most of the bridges were washed out and in some areas there were 6-8 feet of water. Check with the preserve HQ 951-677-6951 for updates. They could not give an estimated time but are working on repairs as fast as they can

I went there to see the pools a couple of years back, My daughter about 9 at the time fell off the board walk and into it, in front of everybody and the ranger:?: came up covered in green slim, though it was only about 1- 2 ft deep. We also saw coyotes running all over that place. Very cool area, felt like you were up north. Has a very good vib.

    ********good News*******

**********GOOD NEWS*********The Santa Rose Plateau is scheduled to be reopened on Sat. 2/6 but may be postponed a bit if weather conditions are what’s forecasted… There is a permanent closure at one of the trail-heads that leads in from the entry across from the visitor center. This section is closed due to the movement of a large bridge. (6 tons) Previously when you crossed this bridge you would come to a split, one direction leading to Tovaashal trail, the other leading to the Torino trail. Now its going to be part of a loop since there will be no exit or entry. This section is going to be closed off for an undetermined amount of time since a crane is needed to move the bridge back. For those that have ridden this trail, you can imagine how difficult it would be to get such a machine back there with out destroying more than you are trying to fix.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help with repairs to the trails. I gave them my contact info if any further help is needed and will let you know what you can do.

Breaking free of the mud might be tough, but these can handle the job
    S-64 Skycrane Payload: 20,000 lb
CH-53E Super Stallion Call in the Marines (and they are close by) Payload: internal: 30,000 lb or 13,600 kg (external: 32,000 lb or 14,500 kg)
    CH-47 Chinook 28,000 lb (12,700 kg) cargo
even a Blackhawk would get close at 9000 lbs.

The Skycrane would be the only one you might be able to get on a civilian contract...But the expense would be crazy....The Russians had some crazy high weight lifting copters as well...

I can live with out that connector trail...I am interested to see that area of the trail...

    The Bridge that washed away..

Here are some pictures of the infamous bridge that caused the SRP's temporary closure.

Picture one is where the bridge used to be.
Two is where the bridge is now.
Three is the distance it traveled.
Four is the fence that closes off that section of the trail.
Five is the creek with all the Oryo Toads with the bridge behind, and I thought it was a good picture :)

Now call your friends with Helicopters to put it back..:-k

If they're not going to move the bridge then by default their decision is to let the bridge decay in place. Demolishing the bridge and removing the parts would also stress the environment.

So they need a new bridge. When this happened at Pt Mugu a new bridge was created from a railroad flat car frame. Pour the foundations and voila instant bridge!

PS If a flood can move a bridge why didn't it move the toads?

I think we should just make the creek bed a double, and call it quits.:bang: Think the rangers would buy it?:-k
