I agree, but since they don't seem to update the site..., I posted this info for those who drive right past the sign hoping to drive up Maple Springs. That at least saves them that 4 mile drive up the canyon. You could also call the district office
    (951) 736-1811 Mon-Fri 8am-4pm and ask them the status.

Sir Crash, do you shuttle Chiquito or out and back? Totally off topic for this thread, sorry, but do wonder what conditions are for Chiquito these days (I've only shuttled from Blue Jay, long time ago)

dcrfx, I either shuttle it from blue jay, or when I cant find someone to ride with on Wednesdays,(my riding day, i work weekends) i do an up& back, usually just up to the high point south of the waterfall and then back down (where most of teh fun stuff is anyway). whats cool about going up is you start off with going down the san juan loop trail which has some fun rocky stuff. Climb isnt really too bad, lotsa hikeabike for me but not a big deal. Im not sure what the current conditions are i havent been there since november. its usually best when damp from recent rain. Dont suppose you have tomorrow off from work?

The last time we had snow, there was still ice on the MD after a week near Modjeska Peak, but most of it was rideable. The mud on B* and MD to MW should be dry by now and the rest of MD up to WHT holds up pretty well in the rain. And I had to walk a section between WHT and Trabuco the last time it rained if you wanted to continue past that. Anyway, I'd ride up there.

Condtions on B*, Main Divine to Motorway and Motorway were great today. Maple Springs was good, but a little wet in sections. There were some ice/snow/mud sections up towards 4 corners, but that should be gone soon with the 80 degree temps today.

Those little ice / snow sections can be very slippery and unpredictable ride with caution...up or down....speaking from experience today.

Oh it was a spectacular February day in the Santa Ana's

Excellent conditions today, Harding all the way through the peak. I really don't have any complaints that involves mudd or ice pack. More hikers than riders that's for sure. What a shame!

Yeah, it was a good ride, but I had a bit of a mental breakdown on Maple just past the asphalt. I had to stop for a minute, regroup, and get myself motivated to keep going.

Glad you enjoyed it. 29 members of the WS went out this past Saturday. We parked at the HJ lot and split into 4 groups. A crew of 5 hiked up to UHJ and brushed the lower portion of that trail and also worked on drainage. Another crew of 7 went up Trabuco and brush that trail all the way to the Main Divide and also did sections of Bell Ridge and Yaeger Mesa. A 3rd crew of 7 worked on the tread of LHJ. They installed grade stabilizers and filled ruts and worked on several switchbacks. A 4th crew of 10 which I was a part of, brushed the entire trail of Lower HJ from trailhead to Main Divide.

As we do every year around this time.., this was in preparation for the VQ/CC.
We also did work on the Motorway about a month ago to clear drainage, some brushing and installed a retaining wall where it was washing out.

The dirt crew installed a new switch berm around 1 of the switchbacks....,

...., and put some drainage on a few others.

Here's a section where they filled ruts and installed some drainage(looking up trail)

We did some minor tread work on a section of the climb at the beginning of LHJ after you drop in from the Main Divide

Beautiful day to be out. Saw lots of hikers and mountain bikers along the trail...,

Including these 2, STR's Hanzo and BandMan. Good seeing you guys again.
