along the same lines, i know there was a thread on san gabes trail condtions but i can't find it. any update on condition of sturdivant or mt. wilson singletrack post wind?

From Chantry to top of Wilson I was told one down tree...via Winter Creek /Manzanita/Toll Road. Not many ride Idelhour so your turn to do recon.

Roach and I did it a few weeks ago, before the winds. The trail was in great shape--beautiful, actually. I prefer Idlehour as a downhill from the west: route was up Sam Merrill, up the Lowe fire road, down Idlehour, up the toll road, down Wilson trail.

I think you have a winner route there...except the pavement to connect the bottom.

The thread and pics that Hans (MountainCycler) put up were our ride a few weeks ago in the rain. It was in really decent shape with one slide area that had been worked on but not finished. Not a lot of poodle dog that was unavoidable, and no downed trees. They had been cleared out by the Mt. Disapointment 50K trail crew for their race a few months prior.

That said, the wind brought down a lot of trees on trails in the front country, (El P, Sunset, Merrils), but none on the Wilson toll road, even though the road is closed at the moment for maintenance. There were a lot of slides on the toll road and it has been closed for work since Monday. You can still get to it from the Altadena Crest trail, but not from Pinecrest. If you go the other way, Mt. Lowe fire road had a lot of downed trees as well.

If you go, take a hand-saw.

We left a car at Delirium Cafe and drove over to Lake.
