    Suggestion:

I’m sure that most of us over the years have accumulated enough spare parts lying around our garages to build several spare bikes.

I figured I would start a thread to list all the parts lying around my garage to see if anyone wants to do some swapping, purchasing, or just get some freebies.

I have a pretty good collection of misc. components, used and new.

I'll take stock this weekend and will put up a list of the components, specs, sizes, etc….

Might be interesting to see what everyone has on hand and are willing to swap. Maybe we can see who can come up with the most unique bike-build using traded parts from Socaltrailrider members.

    What do you think? :-k

I'll do a complete list this weekend, but what come off the top of my head right now are some Ritchey SPD pedals (new), USE Suspension seatpost (new), grip shifts (new), XTR splined BB (new), mavic rims (used), XTR V-Brakes (used), Manitou fork (used), and quite a bit more from my recollection.

I know I also have a good collection of chainrings, cassettes, and freewheels (new and used).

Look for the complete list on Sunday.

Adam, I might be interested in the Mavic rims.....are they complete built wheels? If so what is the rim model and hubs?

I've got a LOT of tires, few shifters...couple of cassettes, couple of handlebars, that's about it.

Rims only; but I believe I also have some hubs laying around. I'll check the specific rim spec this weekend. Probably X517 or thereabouts (my typical rim).

I believe there is a lot of life in the rims, and someone can end up with a nice set of wheels for the price of a set of spokes and a six pack. How true they turn out will depend on if I finish the six pack before or after the wheel build :)

 That is the one thing I'd like to learn how to do is build wheels. I've built 2 of my bikes from the frame up now and loved the satisfaction, just wheels are something that I don't know how to do yet.

Wheels are easy.....have not bought a pre-built wheel set for over 15 years.

Fork rebuilds can be challenging since there always seems to be a unique tool or special technique for each different fork, and almost no LBS on the face of the planet stocks the tools or basic parts for a rebuild.

Just re-built my Reba last week to fix a leak in the dual air since the LBS fell down on the job, and it came out running sweet. (added some extra travel).

Again.....I'll let you know what rims and hubs I have after I take stock of my spare inventory this weekend.

I need to clean out my growing inventory, and plan on only keeping what I need to revive my 1988 Yo Eddy into a rigid SS. Also have a couple of bikes I need to unload to make room for the rigid SS and a FS frame still waiting to be built.

If any of you cant seem to get rid of any spare parts...I'd recommend eBay....

I've sold forks, frames, tires, and lots of other bike parts...

I'd use this as a last resort cuz I think its way cooler trading/swapping parts with other riders.

So for my collection i've got:

    shifters
    brake levers
    cables..housing (new)
    used Panaracer Tires (50% left)

and soon to have a used RockShox Duke SL U-Turn once I get my new fork...

I got 2 frames, every component from my old trek 3700, an xt rear der. (nobody's touching this   ), and a set of extra used tires.

Anyone who wants a pretty nice steel HT frame PM me and we can trade.

EDIT: Or even better, if someone has a rigid fork and is willing to trade it with a xt rear der., PM me also.

BTW, this is a great idea JamR.

George, now that Big Bear is shut down for downhillers I'm not sure I'd want to buy a new full face. PM me with your price again and I'll let you know

    hey carnetorta,

    how old are they?
Is a frame enough to swap for the fork?
(I could also maybe pay in cash)

Very good idea....all my spare parts went into building my singlespeed a couple of months ago. That cured my upgraditis for awhile.

    Corrections:

The new SRAM Cassette is and 8 speed 11-28 cassette. Don't know how the smiley got there.

    The Mavic rim is a X618, 32 hole - not 617
