cbHarping and I headed up to Los Olivos for the 2nd New Year's Day at the Dirt Club at Chamberlin Ranch. We spent the night in Buellton and awoke to a frosty morning. Once we got the ice off the windshield, we headed over to Andersen's for breakfast. Neither of us chose the split pea soup.:?:

We arrived at Chamberlin Ranch and ran into a few familiar faces. Denmother and Just_me, Happy Gilmore, mfoga, and Trojan Insomniac were all getting ready for the first run of the day.

We had a blast riding the DH course. CB gained confidence with each run (and with some encouragement from Denmo and Roger). Soon she was hitting all the drops and grinning ear to ear.

I rode ahead on one run and snapped a few pics. CB has more I'm sure she'll post later.

I have to give a big thanks to Mike and his crew for putting on a great event, and for the tasty tri-tip burritos! Already looking forward to next year.

Yesterday was as perfect of a day as one could get for some DH fun. Only better thing than the riding itself was being able to spend New Year's Day with great friends! I've got some pictures that I'll post once I get out of this hell hole (=work).

    Happy New Year 2009

What a great way to start the New Year, I can't say enough good about The Dirt Club other than the conditions were perfect, the location (landscape) was surreal, short shuttle ride, short hike-a-bike, and an awesome roller coaster DH ride, and lunch was not bad either tri-tip burritos, and pizza

Mark and Eric thanks for the Pic's, really nice camera work, the one of Eric layed over in the fast sweeping berm could be the cover of any major Mountain Biking Magazine.

It was a blast riding with everyone, Nancy & Roger thanks for putting this ride on the calendar, you guys rock !!!

What an AMAZING time we had on New Year's Day! Thanks to Denmo and Roger for posting the ride on the calendar. Everyone did such a great job out there! Some great riding done by all.

Here are just a few more photos. First, the players: Chuck, Eric, Roger, Nancy, Troy, Mark, and Mark!

It was an absolutely gorgeous day. The event was pretty well attended, but not overcrowded. It was great.

The shuttle started first thing in the morning. Ever wonder what cattle feel like? We got a glimpse...

    All aboard!

The course consisted of several jumps at the beginning and one at the end, one step down, three drops, several berms and tight turns. Super fun and flowy course.

Eric and I took our first 2 runs coasting down to get a look at everything. Each run I added another drop or jump. There were three jumps at the beginning with big dug-out holes. Two of those holes looked so big to me, so I didn't attempt them. I skipped the first, did the second (slightly smaller) jump, and skipped the third. Maybe next year...all three. :)

The drops were so fun. By the late morning, I got to all the drops except the one at the end. Roger and Nancy were there and saw me roll to the left of it. They encouraged me to try it again. I said I'd try it on the next run, but that wasn't acceptable! Nancy offered to push my bike up for me if I tried it again. Well, how could I pass that up??? :) Thanks to Roger for leading, so I could tell how fast to go into it.

I enjoyed doing all the sections with everyone as a group. The best part was putting all the sections together: when all of us went from top to bottom with no stops.

Here's a few shots I got from the bottom:

Thanks to everyone who was there for making the start of 2009 such an enjoyable one. You guys rock! :bang:

I dont think any of us did. There may have been a few that did but I didnt see them. I know for even knowing what the jump landing is like it would be hard to hit full tilt, as you come into it you have no idea where that jump goes it looks like your jumping to nothing.
