Congrats to Trizz,Wayland,Carl,Neil,Allison,Willie for your performance throughout the series. That takes alot of commitment and determination to be that consistant. As for my race report , I ended up doing 6 laps. I faced a couple of challenges like a gnarly otb fall due to a rider stopping right in front of me on a fast dh section and a bunch of serious cramps. What can I say , Im hurtin for certain today. 12 hour kicked my butt

There will usually be a link posted on the 12 Hour site a few days afterwards. What's funny is that all the photogs were camped out on all the sketchy sections.

Nice job Steve. I saw you on the course in the aftermath of your crash in the afternoon. And you still went out turned a few more laps after getting beat up.:bang:

m210 - hey there! I saw one of your riders, a tall guy with a tan troupe jersey. I was going to call you but I got caught up in the camp setup and registration lines. Hope your race rocked. Mine was enlightening:lol:. I am no SOLO racer. I tried it and "it" owned me. Cramps were the only item on the days menu. I'm gonna try to do the series in 09. You going to do Solvang?

Having been one of those guys, I submit that the slow descending had more to do with having logged 10+ hours and upwards of 80 miles of riding by that point of the race. I chose to walk many of the downhills on laps 8 and 9 due to fatigue. It had little to do with bike choice or lighting.

Touché. But there were an awful lot of guys going slow in the morning too. I just had a blast bombing down stuff at night. Made the day worth it.

btw great job cranking out 9 laps. That takes some serious commitment and ability. Things I have neither of yet.

Maybe if you'd had a full suspension, you wouldn't have been so fatigued. Now you know I'm just foolin'. Good job, man.

To each his own. You won't win an endurance event on the downhills. But you certainly can lose one.

I think lots of the walking in the mornings were folks on the course for the first time. Hell, I walked that long steep powder downhill that sent 2 people to the hospital.

The crowd gathers -- man, this race has gotten huge! Way to go, Jason (and crew).

Jason makes the requisite annuncements to the gathered hordes (note the freakin' moon in the upper left... we'd see more of that later, for sure).

Ron and Pua Sawicki ran pit for their young Keiki team, represented at the race by 15 year old Gene Capinas on the left (he and his grandmother flew out from Pennsylvania for the race!!!), and my 12 year old boy Willie on the right. It was really great to see two Team Mata Keiki riders roll (and they both got some bling at the end of the day!).

Me getting ready to have a verrrry bad day. My bro Patrick took this one of me, and the next four pictures as well.

Patrick got one of Carlton showin' some skin (and not lookin' real happy about it)! Yeah baby!!!

Great pic of Willie rolling in! Go, Patrick!!!

On my third lap, I got off the bike a lot on the Dam Climb -- my legs were for shit and I knew this would be my last outing for the day. I took along the Nikon and took some shots of racers (one racer asked me along the way what the hell I was carrying in my pack -- body parts?!?!?! -- he laughed hard when I told him it was my big-ass camera).

Now, there's an MTB racing portrait!

    an interesting bit of data...

i was on a three person team and was recruited a few days beforehand. my two teammates had been training for this for a few months and were pretty strong (compared to me at least) at climbing. at the top of the climb where they were giving split times, they were anywhere between 5 and 8 minutes faster than me to the top (somewhere around 21-23 minutes compared to my 28-29 minutes). even with those times i still managed anywhere from about 5 to 10 minutes faster per lap (unofficially).

kinda interesting on how the downhills can effect overall lap times.

Damn! Did you cut the course or something?

I don't think there's enough downhill sections to make up 10-18 minutes per lap. 21-23 minutes to the top is pretty damn fast. That should be good enough for sub-hour laps. What did they end up doing as far as lap times go?

Team Mata Keiki after the race (can ya tell?).

    And that's it for me!

It was another great event. Can't wait for January. I will strive to do better -- maybe even get some training in between now and then, and try and get my boy to train with me, too! That should be excellent.
