Rock It Takes Another Rider Today

Thanks for the updates and hope he heals up.

 

I blew the TST2 Cart of my fork in that exact spot a couple weeks ago and was pissed...guess I feel a little lucky now hearing this sad story.

OK, I guess you're right. I should have said try and live life with no regrets.

 

HOLY CRAP...that's absolutely horrible. Best wishes, thoughts, prayer, mojo, healing vibes and everything else to Ken and his family. Most of us bomb down our favorite trails with delight - knowing we could easily take a digger due to equipment failure or just a little bobble - but assuming it won't really happen, and if it does, it won't be catastrophic. Yuck.

 

If he pulls through and hopefully he will, it will be that phone call that saved his life. It made me think of Natasha Richardson earlier this year and by the sound of it, your buddy's crash was a lot harder than hers was.

Any type of mishap on the rocky section of Rock-It is going to do some damage; even a slow-motion, low-speed crash is likely to break some bones. I personally find Lynx to be a little more challenging but because it's mostly dirt, it doesn't have the same hazard level as Rock-It does.

Anyway, heeling vibes to Ken. Mission is a good hospital so at least you know he's in good hands.

So sorry to hear about Ken's crash. Hopefully, he will make a full (and prompt) recovery.

It's so easy to become complacent on trails we ride often. The higher the speed and the rockier the trail, the greater the chance of paying big for a mistake. I've taken to wearing a full-face helmet (fiberglass shell) on any trails that combine speed & rockiness. On a few occasions, i've crashed hard enough to gouge the FF... don't want to think of what the results might have been if wearing a flimsy XC helmet.

Man... i dont think i ever wanna ride that section now... it's giving me the chills just thinking about it...

I remember why i stopped riding "all mountain" and started riding XC, life is too precious...

With the prayers of everyone on this board and his friends and family, Ken will pull through... i know it!

 

Kinda speechless...it really hits home anytime a member of our small community goes down and ends up like this. I'm sure I've seen him on the trails at one time or another.

I'm pretty sure I'll see him out there again in the near future too. :beer:

Sending him, all his friends and family well wishes. Sounds to me like he's gonna pull through just fine, even though the waiting game is stressful. Keep thinking positive and keep his bike tuned up for when he recovers. He'll be back.

Been down Rockit 100 times and that bottom section is a bad place to go down due to the possiblity of a very high speed if bombing. Same thing could have happened to many of us.

Man I really hope this guy pulls through for everyone who loves him and depends on him.
This should be a wake up call for anyone who knows him or has heard of this tradgic story. Most of us spend big money on our rigs, so spend a little more and buy a full face helmet. I am down from riding for 12 weeks due to a broken colar bone, my full face saved me from head trama. I know sometimes it is a hassel, is hotter,and it weighs more but, it is well worth it. On the up side of the ride I snap my helmet to my camel pac and it is not an issue.
So think about it, it could save your life. The better the rider the more you need it.
