Holy cow, I sent a prayer up and I asked the man upstairs to help out. Sorry about the accident and hope he recovers well from the surgery. Geez.

possibility of a mechanical issue, broken fork, frame, tire blow out etc.

after the dust settles take a good close look at this bike just to see if anything looks weird

FYI I have some experience in this field, had a front tire blow out doing stupid human tricks and took some stitches in the head recently

Quick update on Ken's condition: They've got a feeding tube in and have a blood filter hooked up to prevent clots. Other than that, he's pretty much sedated, not opening his eyes. They might have him in an induced coma, I don't know for sure.

More info to come as I receive it...

massive healing vibes to Ken and thoughts of encouragement to his wife. Good thing friends like you (and others) are out there to help. Stay safe everyone and enjoy the ride for Ken and others who are off the bike.

for those that haven't ridden rock it. (there prob aren't many)

from what I gather from the story this picture looks to be right about where ken went down.

I always bomb right through that rock garden at 10/10th's. No brakes right down the center of it. I never really gave it a second thought. Because of the way the rock formations are if you do go down there you will be applying max pressure to whatever part of your body makes contact with the ground first. No doubt this is what happened to Ken. Man it could have happened to any of us that ride this section.

Bone chilling realization this. It's very easy to get complacent with the trails that you ride a ton. Ken's wreck will be a big wake up call to me to make sure I dial it back a notch on that section.

    we're pulling for you Ken.

Latest update: I just got back from the hospital. Ken is in the SICU unit at Mission. He has a skull fracture in the rear of his head and has a broken pelvis. They performed surgery early this morning to relieve the pressure in his brain. They have him in an induced coma with a feeding tube and on a ventilator. He will stay in an induced coma for anywhere from 1-2 weeks until the swelling in his brain subsides. His family (wife and kids, mom, dad, sister, niece, nephew, pastor from his church) are all there.

This is a pretty serious thing and I for one am pretty shaken up about it.

    Keep up the prayers please...

And here is a pic taken by Shawn who called 911 for us and got the medics rolling... Thanks again bro.

    Peace -

Our sport has these inheirent risks. Keep this in mind when riding. I recently left the company I was working for to start my own company and I won't have insurance for another two weeks. This is constantly on my mind when I'm riding. My son, a few friends and a few people I know of have had bad crashes and the ones who have the injury like your friend have a tough road ahead. I'm sending all the healing vibes I can, he's going to need them.
