Sorry to see those pics. You should get an El Cap for your next ride. The frame is as strong as nails.

I must say that I really enjoy my NINERs The RIP has been a great bike for about a year and a half. It has been all over Cali, SART, DH in Big Bear and even hit up Utah... I still have a ONE9... But who knows... I still think a blue ft triangle with a silver rear would be the SHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy cow! That is crazy, seems like these things always happen when you're just riding along! I would be crying in my beer for a while if my RIP broke like that. I am sure Niner will help you out, and I agree the Atomic Blue would look schweet with your silver rear triangle. However, the '08s I think have some differences in both the front and rear triangles - I am not 100% positive but there are some threads on mtbr in the Niner forum that detail the differences. So, long story short, I am not sure if you'd be okay to mate the '07 rear tri with an '08 front.

Be sure to let us know how Niner responds. Ride on!

I have no idea if this is a known problem on this frame, but this is a common problem I've seen on many frames of this design, including Giant, Turner, Ellsworth, Trek, Kona, and many others. Over the years, these companies have mostly figured out how to reinforce this area to prevent this from happening. Apparently, being a relatively new company, it's now Niner's turn to figure it out.

If Voodoo made your size, you could have Turner and just call it a Canzo. That swamp green color is hideous though...

Kinda where I am headed if I have to buy a frame.... I am thinking BOX or Ventana

I do not want to give up any travel so either another RIP, Ventana with 5" rockers or BOX. I do not think the 5.5 29er from Intense will be available anytime soon especially in my size, always the last to be made.

I sent an email to Niner so we will see where we go from here.

    Niner Inc. Limited Warranty

Niner Bikes, Incorporated will warranty all frames for material defects and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of purchase for the original owner only. This warranty is subject to approval by Niner Bikes and is only valid for bicycles damaged under normal use. This warranty does not extend to jumping, hucking, free-riding, or any other Darwinian usage of the frame. It does not cover paint/finish issues, minor dents, or issues arising from normal wear and tear. This limited warranty applies to the frame only. All other components are covered under the warranty from the manufacture of said components. This warranty is void if the frameset was not purchased new or assembled correctly.

Should the frame be determined to be defective by Niner Bikes, Niner will repair or replace the frame at Niner's sole discretion. Niner will not pay for any labor charges associated with the warranty of said frame, but will pay for shipping of the frame to and from Niner's headquarters. To exercise this warranty, please call or email Niner Bikes as soon as a problem arises. Niner will make every effort to repair/replace a warranty claim in a timely fashion and keep you riding. It would be helpful if you timed your warranty claim with a massive snow storm or torrential rain storm so that you don't notice that your bike is un-rideable.

Personally I hate it when companies put that kinda language in their warranty... You won't find crap like that in Turner's Warranty. These are freaking mountain bikes. Justin better hide those photos of him hucking his SIR :?:

Niner significantly extended the gusset from the shock pivot further down on 2008 frames which may help to prevent a break like this. So it was a design reliability improvement, not a flaw. Search MTBR Niner forum for changes and contact Niner. From what I see, they have great CS unlike some other companiEs.
