Yeah but he did have a really close encounter with a bear once and another time he got in over his head trying to do some solo "rock-climbing"....how he never got eaten by a mountain lion out there I don't know.....

I'd rather die on the side of a trail than from a 3 year battle with cancer.

Yep, I've been riding solo for 20 years now. I would *like* to ride among my peers every time I ride, but the simple reality is that my schedule, goals, and interests rarely line up with anybody else's. The alternative is probably being obese and perhaps on blood pressure/diabetes medication. No thanks.

Cellphone, micro ham radio, and healthy fear of crashing go with me. ;)

A friend of mine had a Spot GPS locator, if you are riding alone and something happens, it sends a message to the emergency services via satellite, so phone coverage is not an issue.

You pay $50/year for the service.

It can also be set to send your wife a text message saying that you are ok.

...as strange as it sounds, i almost prefer riding alone. I get in my own groove and just do it...unlike when i'm with others, where i always feel like i'm going too slow or what have you. I guess i just like the "me" time.

*That being said, i've also never been in a serious biking accident when i'm by myself either, so take that for what you will.

    BACK TO THE TOPIC.....

I hope that guy is OK... I know how it is taking a bad crash by yourself far from where people can find you.. Fear in his mind and the pain of the crash tears you down after trying to reach for help...

My prayers go out to him for full recovery..
