Hi. My wife drove past the crossing at Euclid today and saw a demolished bike with a car and broken windshield. Did not look good. Anyone know the details.

I was there and just missed the accident by a few minutes. The rider rode by me and we greeted each other, then I saw him down (Euclid & Laguna).
A middle age male driver of a Lexus ES heading south on Euclid, fell asleep, cross the median, hit the curb, then took the biker out. He had broken bones & deep gash on his face. The Specialized was split in half at the headset. Hope he recovers soon.

Looking at the pics made me think about how to ride that stretch with more caution and safety since once I cross that part of Euclid, I'm just ambling along waiting 'till I turn right on Laguna Road. Healing Vibes to the rider.

That part of Fullerton Loop is really scary. It's practically a freeway. South bound cars whip around a blind corner, as the offender did. Speedy recovery.

yes...there are a couple of "freeways" to cross along the loop and I dread them more than the loop and some of its "extra credits" themselves. Im really glad i decided not to do a second lap otherwise i would have ridden right up to the accident. Grim reminder that it can happen anywhere, anytime and to anyone.

It is not known how the rider crossed Euclid. He was down on Euclid and Laguna. According to goryguru, the driver was heading south on Euclid, fell asleep, crossed the median, hit the curb, and took the biker out. Sounds like to me that the rider had already crossed Euclid and might have been on Laguna heading down to the trail head when he was ambushed. The driver jumped the curb!

But it is, as you say, safer to cross at the light and I think that is what I will do as well.

we're talking about the "freeway" section of euclid, near laguna lake? When you cross euclid, after the downhill, there is a light that you can use but I think its safer to just cross before the light. Why? B/c even with the green light, I saw a car just blow right by. There's a curve there and sometimes those cars don't even see the light. If you cross as soon as you come down from the downhill, before the church, then you can see the cars alot better. At the light past the church, can't see as well.
either way, that section is dangerous.. I'll take the chutes any day instead...
