Relatively New to SoCal, Newbury Park to be exact

Hey STR folks. Im relatively new to the area, moved to Newbury Park in Ventura County about 9months ago. Moved from the Hudson Valley region on NY State where we had some beautiful single track. Out here generally I have been riding in the T.O. area where there seems like lots to choose from. I ride Los Robles probably the most, then Wildwood, Chesebro Cyn., and have ridden the Backbone Trail once.

Are there any races in this general area that might be good for someone relatively new to the sport? It seems like there lots of road rides and road clubs around here but not as much for MTBers.
