So, I've made the commitment to a DH rig because I really enjoy the tougher stuff. I don't have a BMX or MX background - just ski racing. Where's a good place to learn more DH skills without killing myself in or near Orange County? I did a clinic with Julius down in Poway and I loved it. I will do another one, but I would like to find someplace closer to practice and step up. Any DH newbie sessions? Santiago Oaks? 8-[

Living in Laguna and asking where to DH is like living a block from a supermarket and asking where you can get something to eat.

Feel free to PM me. Once my cast is off (mid-December), i'll be wanting to hit the local trails hard. The goods are here in LB.

hopefully you won't be hitting the trails too hard. that could hurt

but yeah. a lot of stuff in aliso (stairsteps, t****), goat at oaks, theres the SSDH spot (just ask someone in private and you'll be enlightened), corona, i hear chiquito is fun. big bear is fun if you've got a shuttle to the top (wont happen during the winter though)

    Stairs

Seems more like an AM bike ride due to having to ride uphill to access it, even from ToW. I've ridden stairs once on my 575. It was fun, but I can see where it would be even more fun on a DH rig. I can never convince my riding buddies to go down it though.

I know of the famous "you can't say it but everybody shuttles it" run from ToW. Just looking for somebody to ride it with that won't laugh at a DH neophyte.
From your previous posts Art, it seems that you often hit the trails hard. :bang: I'll PM you for a December tour.

You pretty much need shuttle buddies to ride DH in the OC. Form the group, or hook up with one. There are lots of loose networks of like minded riders. The best is when there is no ride planned, then a flurry of texts and e-mails, and next thing you know 6 riders and 6 DH bikes are packed in a vehicle.

    Oaks ride on sunday.

I'll shuttle you to the top is pedaling aint your thing, another hill climb would not hurt my fat ass one bit. However dropping piles of rocks wont necessarily a faster rider make. One thing you said was no BMX background, if you wanna ride some street I know a shed load of locations to brush up on the fundamentals, best of all you won't be poaching, ruining trail beds, or wind up splatted with mud (not completely anyway) if anyone cares feel free to PM, we can throw down this afternoon if at least one person is able.:welcome:

We find a place to shuttle DH almost every weekend. Just PM me or DownhillPhil or FrameKiller or Wheelslayer or Freerideco etc....

There are a lot of "groups" or whatever you wanna call 'em? Most all of us are pretty friendly. We cater to all levels of riding too. I tend to be the least "talented" but I hold my own. Nobody judges you or talks smack.

All of us started somewhere and we are here to encourage you!

PS- we took that clinic in Poway too!

anyone up for SSDH sunday morning? I'd be up for some shuttle runs. it's a good place to get used to a new bike, and caters to all skill levels.

also, don't worry about being slower than other people. most people are chill and don't mind waiting up at the bottom. plus, you learn to ride fast if you're riding with faster people

SSDHC trail on Sunday at around 0800 hrs. That's 8 o'clock am to you civilians!

We will be there for sure! I have a white Ford Exploder Sport-Trac. It will most likely have a few DH bikes in the back of it.

Nothing steps up your tech riding like trips to Southern Utah or Northern Arizona.
