Does this mean I have to start riding my singlespeed again?
I thought it was all about AM bikes and fanny packs still?

After SSlacking in 2008, and 2009, I promised to be there in 2010 and flaked. So I'm a maybe 2011 which means I should be there.

Can somebody explain how "SSlacking (or SSuffering)" works? I am planning on riding my SS, but what else is involved. No skinny dipping at the lake or anything, right? How fast is the ride?

SSlacking means they'll be taking their time to complete the ride and get back just in time for the raffle. SSuffering is no slacking and per single speed hammerfest. I believe these guys will be SSlacking this ride.

I think I'll have MORE fun if I throw a 21T on the back.

Is it too late for the pre-ride offer? I would like to know some of where I'm going when doing the ride, and I still don't know very many trails in OC. PM me and let me know if you want to pre-ride, cause if you do, I'm in.

The course will be well marked with ribbons and at any junction along the way. With the way the weather has been with this on again/off again rain, it could change last minute if Whiting is closed due to rain as this event will go on rain or shine.

What time does the raffle start? About 2 if I remember correctly? That means 7 hours (from 7 AM) to finish. Doesn't sound like slacking to me.

It starts at 2:30. Trust me, it is slacking in comparison to those who just ride. I had 5:03 in ride time and 8:01 of total time in 2009. That's 3 hrs of slack time. This new route is not very difficult to do.

    He's kidding about shuttles.

I wouldn't worry about this ride too much. It's not you'll end up with a DNF(Did Not Finish) if you get back late or get cutoff, because there is a cutoff so the volunteers aren't out there all day waiting.

They were never an issue. The sweeps leave 2 hrs after the 50 milers leave and ride at a casual pace. Trust me, if they catch you before you get to the turn around point in Caspers, you will be asked to turn around and start heading back cause you will not make it there in time.

Like I said, don't get so worked up over this, it's not a race or even a "timed event" like the VQ/CC. Go out and have fun. Doesn't really matter if you complete the full 50 miles or not. There will be others completely capable of doing 50, but maybe due to mechnicals or other issues, they'll do what they can and head back. You don't want to miss the raffle which is the best part.

Those of you who have registered, I highly recommend using the online donation tool. It has exceeded my expectations. Donations are pouring in. For some reason, most of them are from anonymous donors.

    I feel loved. Anonymously Loved.
