I could be. I'm comfy wih 25. However, 50 is quite different, too much maybe.

I rode Dove Canyon to East Ridge on Sunday 3/13, and these pictures from 2/13are still representative of what Starr Rise looks like. My drivetrain sounded like a coffee grinder afterwards. I'm planning on the 50, and if it looks anything like this will Carry A Bike over it. East Ridge, etc was a little loose, but probably normal. There are some major ruts on West ridge which will probably make the ride a little technical than before? My first time in to Caspers, it was tougher getting back to the waterfall than I expected. Note to self: ride easy & flat the day before the 50. Sat I had gone B* to Skyline and was feeling it Sunday.

My girlfriend and I rode from Cook's Corner to preview the Whiting Ranch portion of the ride. Kindof fun as although I have ridden in Whiting Ranch, I've never done the first part that goes behind the Oakley Factory. That was cool however there is one big scary washout at the bottom of a steep hill hopefully someone will be stationed at to warn riders.

Once in Whiting, we went up Coyote Brush; alittle bit of climbing and down to the fun part of Whiting, all the singletracks through the Oaks. Some were alittle scary for me, I walked some of them. My friend, attempted to ride through them all and did, except she didn't quite make it up one little steep hill and had a bad fall. Of course once through the singletrack, there is that steep little climb up Raptor back to the parking lot and then the climb up Glenn Ranch that goes up and over to the really steep climbing.

Just an FYI... for those considering the 25 but this ride is going ot be a push for you, go out and practice steep climbs. Sustain climbing like Blackstar is good but you need to tackle those short but really steep, puckering climbs since that is most of what is on the course. Just know, in places who will probably be walking but it's all doable.

Starting next week (I am on call for work this week so no riding), I will be riding some after work rides (5:30 - dark) to begin training. The rides will probably include portions of the route. I also have a rolling leg burner route in, around and through Ladera that I like to use to train. I will post them in the calendar and all are welcome to join. The routes are not technical, not difficult, just rolling miles with some burst climbs that get the lungs and legs working.

On a side note, but related. Please visit my 50 Mile Ride campaign site and donate....... I am @ 35% of my goal.

I'm starting to think about it. But I'm having delusions of grandeur... Thinking about attempting the 50... I need to look at the route a bit more before I'm ready to commit. The 25 would probably be a better way to go.

Is this really the 25? Can someone confirm? Gene, Greg, Doug??? I thought whiting was at the end? and this route is almost all fire road, bike trail and lots of pavement. So sad that O'Neill and Tijeras Creek won't be back ready in time. Will look forward a new route next year.

Warning - some short STEEP climbs in this route, NOTHING technical - but those steeps will get you if you're not prepared for them.

The ladder for the 50 miler looks to be from the people organizing the ride. Comparing the two, the beginning looks very similar. Who knows, I'm purely speculating.

It's the distance that will get you. Those short burst climbs feel like monsters after 30 miles +.

Just go for the Fifty. Pace yourself and stay hydrated and take in electrolytes. Walk if you have to. If coffee haulers haul all those loads riding heavy steel clunkers.. You guys should be fine.

    Hey peeps,
I did the 50 miler last year in your neck of the woods and you have some great trails. Just ride and do the best that you can. See what happens and you might surprise youself with how well you rode. fight the good fight.

Not sure about any of this. I'm not involved in the Rwanda Ride. I only volunteered as ambassador last year and a sweep a few years ago. I have no say on the route.
