Hotchkiss --

Love the way the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group gather in a circle around the drummer! Very cool. Unusual set up for a live gig, for sure.

Hey, they gots a lefty guitar player (me, too!). Cool song with a great groove, though I could do without the gratuitous knob twirling on the singer's echo pedal made by the guitar player. Cheap thrills I guess.

There's definitely a fine line between accent and obtrusion while using a digital delay pedal. Especially when its on a table for easy access to knob turning versus the floor.

I'm a gratuitous knob twirler, so I dig it. She was a guest adding vocals to only that song. Omar uses his voice through the delay as another instrument, No actual singing, more or less psychedelic scat.

Okay, slackers, it's time to fire up the music Snob-o-Matic 3000T (the "T" stands for explosive):

    Song-1: Amebix-No gods, no masters
    Song-2: Reagan Youth - I Hate Hate

And because it's what I'm listening to right now:

    Song-3: Sobut - 9 Times

@sasquatch...: Yes, Babyland was the duo with the steel drums, drills and copious amounts of fire...god I loved their shows.

Falconer, you're calling me out on my bluff, it was my "attention-grabber/sales-man-pitch" hahaha

But the exchange n introduction of music was the big prize. I have found several new artists who are amazing...
And the selection of music paints a picture of the STR members :)
Shudder feels like he's won:""^^ Absolutely! Look around you! It's everywhere!!""

Wilco - Spiders (kidsmoke), Wilco borrowed heavily on the intro. Listen to them back to back

Elgin Park - My Town (Mike Andrews is a genius. From his work here to the funk journeys with the Greyboy Allstars, to his soundtrack and film scores works ("Donnie Darkos" "mad world" cover!). Extremely talented young man.)http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/elginpark

    Julie The Band* - Algorithm

    The Contortions - Contort Yourself†

    * - Found these guys a few years ago through my bub Andrew who has a t-shirt bizz in Venice. Julie were clients of his for several years, and handed him some CDs a few years ago when they finally released a full CD. Great local boys with some great, great songs.

† - Got the chance (no pun intended) to see James White (nee Chance) and his band-du-jour in an empty car park south of Houston in NYC in 1981. Me and a friend had driven from Cali to NY in my big Chevy van, and we slept on the street in NYC for a few days while we checked out the SoHo happenings. Great gig. I asked James if I could take a pic of him in his dirty white jacket and he said, "Sure." Then gave me a glare you wouldn't believe. From the ridiculous to the sublime...

Record Store day in Orange County is BUNK!!! None of our 4 record stores get any of the limited addition vinyl. I walked in to vinyl solution a couple years ago looking for the 7" Pavement released and they said "I didn't know it was record store day". Really wanted to get the Phish 7" they released, only 2000 were printed. Looks like I'll be on e-bay this week.

    Todd Rundgren - Tiny Demons*

    * - I was amazed they used the studio version of this track on Miami Vice once upon a time in the '80s -- some rich kid done in by drugs, throwing up in a toilet, and this Todd track (of all things!) playing ominously in the b/g. So cool, and a perfect fit.

    Porcupine Tree - Deadwing¥

¥ - At 7:30, guest guitarrist Adrian Belew rips an excellent weirdo solo (and he sounds a lot like Todd when he sings... but he doesn't sing on the record -- listen to some latter day King Crimson for that).
