Some sort of crazy uphill endo, Ken? Fast as you climb, it's a possibility...:?:;)

Glad nothing's broken. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I assume he had a helmet on. I didn't think you could get knocked unconscious with a helmet on unless you smashed your face. Maybe the whipping of the neck knocked him out. Scary stuff.
I never like seeing good hospital beds being taken up by cyclists.

    Thanks All,

It was at the start of the trail that leads down to the kenter woops. Like about 100 yards down from the fire road. Never even got to the woops. The jump/bump wasn't very high only about 8" high. Well below what I've done hundreds of times. I don't recall much so I'm not sure what happened or what I screwed up. I remember seeing the bump and aiming for it to jump. Then I have a vague recollection of a felling of "oh crap". Next thing I remember is starting to wake up and wondering why everyone is in my bedroom holding me down not letting me up (just not as erotic as it sounds). Of course I wasn't in my bedroom I was on the trail. From what Greg, Louisa (bonniebiker) and Jim told me, I was up a few times talking and looking at my wounds each time like it was the first time. They even had walked me to a place out of the sun. I took off my camel back and helmet even took out my hankey, wet it down and started to clean my wounds. But I don't recall any of it. I just remember waking up, them holding me down for a while, being asked a bunch of questions, about a minute or two later I finally got up and walked 100 yards up the trail to the fire road. Within about 5 minutes of that I was fully coherent. But for 2 minutes or so they said I was out and 15 minutes I wasn't fully coherent.

I was helicoptered to the trauma center at ucla medical. They took x-rays of everything that hurt and a cat scan of my head and neck. My shoulder x-rays were fine. They poked around it pretty good. It only hurt to the touch on the tissue and I have full motion of my arm with no pain. My left pinkey and knee are what hurts the most and is swollen the worst. X-rays for those came out clean as well. My cat scan of my head and neck came out clean with nothing to report. Basically I got banged up pretty good.

One thing I did learn from this is, if you ever have some one who is knocked our and/or incoherent for awhile, don't tell them what they were doing during that time. Just be vague. Wait hours or days later to tell them the details. They told be things while I was finally becoming coherent and that just started to freak me out and I started to get scared. I know they meant well but that was not a pleasant feeling trying to digest that at that particular time.

Later, I keep you guys updated.

YES!! I was wearing a helmet. I don't recall anything of hitting the ground (see my later post of more details). My face has a little scratch and bump where it must have made contact with the ground. But not much of a scratch. My left shoulder, arm, hand and knee to the brunt of the impact (based on everything that is swollen). My helmet has some dirt and cosmetic scratches but no cracks. In fact you'd be hard pressed determining where my helmet hit. But just to be safe I will consider the helmet's life used up and buy a new one. Never can be too safe with that.

Unfortunately the ucla trauma folks told me another cyclist arrived by helicopter an hour or so after I got there. That cyclist tangled with a car. I hope he/she is alright.

You keep doing things like this and you'll never get to be as old as I am.... or, at least, you won't remember anyway.

Always sorry to hear about one of our own going down..

Does anyone remember if you asked "How's my bike?" If not, that must have really hurt.

I had one of my U17 girl soccer players pass out for a couple minutes after torquing her knee (ACL - nothing to do with her head). She let a blue streak fly that would make a Raider fan blush, then her head slightly jerked to one side and out she went. I think sometimes it's just a traumatic situation that can cause that.

Glad it doesn't appear to be anything serious.

I don't recall. I'll have to ask sometime. I sort of recall being asked what my wife's name is. I hope I got it right 8-[.

Oh yea, I had one of those, waking up in the hospital not knowing why you are there, how you got there, or why friends are standing over you. That was years ago. To this day I don’t remember exactly, I don’t even remember the 20 min ambulance ride down PCH (Malibu to SM). I hope you remember the helicopter ride. I had to pay for the ambulance and didn’t even get to remember / enjoy it!

Best of luck. Make going back to the point of the accident one of your first rides back.
