So I'm riding down the SGRT this morning and someone comes up the other way wearing the polka dot jersey. Not "a polka dot jersey," but red and white with the right sized dots and everything. Shouldn't that be embarassing to the wearer?

I don't know, maybe I should be embarassed by half the cr@p I post on STR, but you won't catch me riding around in a green jersey or anything!

    Well, can he climb?
I know there are no mountains on the SGRT, but maybe the dude can really climb,

Or, maybe he's just a poseur.

    Hey, you can buy anything.

Wearing it out there takes cajones, though.

You know.... that weight and pretentiousness are inversely proportional?
    True fact.

Nothing wrong with being a wannabe...some of us are just more overt about it.

It could be one of two things, he can climb hella good, or he could just THINK he climbs hella good. I used to think I could climb, then I rode with other people.....

I have one and would be wearing it if I could fit into it. The reason I have it is "it's a bitchin jersey!" it's just like wearing a "real" Dodger jersey when you go to the Dodger game. I don't mean anything by it, I'm just a fan of the sport and the race it's self. This does not make me a dork! It's all the other stuff I do that does.

Personally I don't think I'll ever be wearing one, but I have to agree with Mantaman. I'm sure there are several people that own a yellow jersey too. Not for me, but it does support the tour right? I guess the real question is where does it stop? Having the world championship rainbow on your bike? Am I "allowed" to wear the gold and black Jawbone Oakleys? What about a RadioShack jersey? I don't race for them, but the Shack is what I consider an "American" team.

However, I do own a BurgerKing jersey. I don't eat there and they do not support me. I love the jersey simply because of the irony of a cyclist eating fast food. I think its funny.

I don't wear one. I want to keep my title as most modest rider.

I've got a couple. I've got one from King of the Mountain series and another they gave us for doing the century ride "Ride around the Bear", I have to admit I feel a little strange wearing it as I'm a very slow climber but I did earn it for doing the climbs. I do laugh sometimes as I see some guys wearing the Rainbow or even the Yellow but I don't think bad about them. It's just support for our sport.

I don't like to be riding around like moving billboard! Some things are fine but some shirts are too loud and in your face. Its like having a billboard in a national park, no reason for it.

    Poseur here...

Love my BMC Hincapie American Champ jersey...I'm not Hincapie, own anything BMC, or am a champ at anything.

Recent Garmin-Chipotle jersey, and that is a burrito in my pocket.

If you like it, and it fits (this is an important one, nothing like seeing a hairy beer gut busting out the bottom of a Captain America Zabriskie TT Jersey but OVER the bib-shorts on a 12k Pinarello on the SART), then wear it.

My personal faves are the Arrogant Bastard series...too loose for road riding, but just right for the off-road sessions.

I think chubby dudes w/ shaved legs and bad goatees hanging out at the Path Bike shop are pretty funny too. I went there the other day and and there were boat loads of them. (Not to discount the shop by any means, it's been a while since I have been a shop of the caliber.) The crowd in the parking lot seemed very "Paper plate biker dude hanging out at Kook's corner 'esque"

I vote wear whatever you want, cycling is not cool either way. Go have fun!

That is an earned jersey, Mike. 1000 miles in five days (albeit noncontiguous ones)! I think you should wear it more. I've done one double in my life, and damn!
