Not to nitpick, but drought and climate change both are natural processes. One can make the argument that the bark beetle infestation is too.

Though good point with the bark beetle infestation. Either way though, there's a lot of deadfall, and deadfall = fuel.

I was trying to side step that whole can-o-worms! But yeah, there's a ton of fuel in them thar hills and when you have all that fuel near a population (Big Bear), it could be a recipe for disaster.

It's open again. There is also a new single track that begins across.the fireroad where Pirates ends. I like the new extension.

I was up there a few weeks ago and saw they were just starting to do something on Pirates.

I also rode that new singletrack. Not sure how new it is really, but it was the first time I had ridden it. On Strava it's listed as Plumber's Plunge. It basically parallels the 2N10 fireroad down towards Bear Mountain Ski Resort. I'd say it was pretty much an intermediate trail. Got a little steep in a couple of places, but it probably seemed steeper to me because I had no use of my rear brakes for the last 8 miles or so of that ride.

I'm headed up there on the 25th for my second time ever. I love Fall line, upper and lower. There were a few unmarked trails that i was tipped off to by a few riders. One of them is called World Cup i believe? Not really sure though. All I know is that it was steep, loose and had me riding my brakes the entire time.

Some of the better marked trails, IMO, are Fall Line and Pine Knot. Fall line is a more intermediate to advanced (barely) trail. The upper and lower portions are fun if you go fast and lay off the brakes. Pine knot is more of a long flowing singletrack with some narrow tech-ish sections. I'd say it's an intermediate trail. The only problem with pine knot is that you have to ride the road all the way back to the lifts.

Enjoy the trip. Ill be the guy riding the white SC Butcher.

Go to the snow summit website. They have a map of all of the legal trails.

You can buy Follet's map at Snow Summit. It is pretty good. Plus, it shows you trails on the other side of the lake and SART.

The map on Snow Summit's website does not have several trails - Dog Trail, Dickies, Trick or Treat, etc. I assume that these are all legal trails since they recently had actual name signs posted at their beginnings.
