The idea for this ride started as a joke back in my bike shop days of the early 90's. Part urban legend, part smart-assery, we told stories of a Fred customer who asked when the nearby Spring Classic race was. "Which race do you mean?" we asked.

    "That Rubidoux race in Riverside."

Puzzled we inquired, "Which Rubidoux race?"

"You know, Perris to Rubidoux," he responded.

So, on to the present, let's make this a real ride. Who would be interested in riding the inaugural Perris-Rubidoux? I am still working on an exact route. It will be in the range of 60 miles. Depending on turnout we can finish with BBQ and beers or ride to the local hop merchant. Spartacus is out with a broken collarbone which sucks a lot of life out of watching the Hell of the North, so let's ride.

Only if you find some cobblestones (pavers will do...) for part of the route...

And you have to end it at Rubidoux high school on their track at their stadium... http://g.co/maps/75wnc

True, true. Part of my recon now is looking for cobbles. I think our weather will be much better.

If not cobblestones or pavers, you could just take the route off-road....CX style...in some places.

Yeah, cobbles would be ideal but some sort of Forest / dirt path would suffice. Sycamore Canyon? But at least one token stint on some sort of cobbles/pavers would be ideal even if it just went through a shopping center or something cheesy like that.

Great idea! I wish we had more gravel/dirt farm roads here...always mad that I never did the Gravel Metric in IL...

    http://gravelmetric.wordpress.com/

Great promo video of first race...did tons of TTs out there and always swore at rural IL roads when driving home. God bless the milk truck drivers in WI insisting on paved roads!

In ghetto fashion they might just be a 3-pack of Hanes with a Sharpie.

The SART passes at the very foot of the Robidoux. So I suggest we go past the monolith, grab onto the circular paved street and end at the giant flag pole with cold beers piled at the base. It is bike path from at least Norco.
Sounds like the beginning of a new classic.
Although probably more of a local classic.

If I'm not at Sea Otter I'm all over this! Great ideal and the sharpie t-shirts will make this new classic classy.

This would have to end with a hilltop finish on Rubidoux, right?

I think the pot holes and broken up asphalt through Riverside/Rubidoux will be worse than riding on cobbles.........

    Count me in as well!

Interesting idea but would need to see a route. I can't think of many safe bike routes from Perris to Rubidoux.

No need for cobble stones, a lot of the roads could be about the same LOL

I'm not sure about Perris, but it could be a good ride from lake Perris to mt Rubidoux. There's a lot cycling near UCR.
    Make a t shirt and I'm in
