I didn't see any other topics so here goes.... Another fun night out at Irvine Lake and another new course. I hated the changes on my warm up, but I ended up really liking them in the race. The new section along the water leading to the new uphill was fun, as was the routing through the bushes coming back towards the finish. Only 3 races left.... its all downhill from here.
I gotta say that this year the courses have been so varied and borderline nuts. I had one of my worst finishes this week but I loved the course. I rode the beginner one. I will do anything to avoid that big hill and tonight's trade off was wild. Thanks course designers.
It was a great night.... With this being the 9th race the points will start to come together.. only 3 more races left.. It should be a very good wind down to the last race.. I planned on wearing my Go Pro on my warm up tonight, but I forgot to charge it at work today. I wish I had it.
I finished and stayed upright, so all is good. I only had time to warm up on the east portion of the course, so all the new goodness on the west side came as a surprise to me during lap one, lol. Ava got another first place in the Girls 6-8 race, so she's happy but was even more happy just to play with the other kids there.
I had a great time out there tonight with my son Peter. He did the kids 6-8 race and I did the B-3. We figure it is a great way to celebrate my birthday today. It was also good to see some familiar faces out there.
I heard many people say something similar, and I agree - the course raced much better than it appeared it would. Dropped my chain early and had a lot of ground to make up, so I was passing quite a few people (not enough, though). There were a lot of places one could make up time with a little commitment. I'm enjoying the variety this year. I'm glad the beginners finally got to hit the single track that usually follows the downhill/loose right-hander on the far side by the lake (wasn't crazy about the hike-a-bike to get there, though - never got the chance to attempt to pedal it, there was always a crowd walking it). Fun course tonight!
Had my best time last night racing found a pace a stayed there knock off 5 min behind the leaders, thanks everyone for all the pushing me (pedal giddy) this season tonight i finally pick it up al little more and I really liked the changes on the course it breaks up old retuines and I cleared that back section it was tuff!! I was wondering there is a lot nice trails at Irvine Lake why won't they let you ride it on other nights or days I could bring the fishing polls, ice chest canopy and the family and make a day of it has anyone else rode the lake during the week??
Tonight was my first time racing OTH...first time racing anything and I had a blast. The course was fun and not at all what I expected. Didn't finish as well as I had wanted to, but I still finished! I was surprised at how chill everyone was. Even as riders where passing me, some would cheer me on. Felt good. Can't want for next week...I'm hooked!
Loving how the courses have been getting tougher compared to previous years. Several of us single-speeders were warming up and towards the end we were looking at each other and wondering if we were over-geared! In the end, it all went well, provided there wasn't a hitch in your giddy-up come the third lap on the hike....errrrr... run-a-bike sections! Anaerobic burn here we come.... #-o Some OTH mud post-race:
Great night! Made it to this weeks race after a forgetting all of my stuff to go straight from work for #8. Good times! Disco Dino's setup, which worked out pretty good! Everybody is a critic! right manny. Phillip chasing Manny. Gitty showing off his battle wound! somebody got a new bike! Kenny getting to it before his mishap, which ended well I'd say! LA rides so fast I only managed to catch him on one lap going by! It was fun to watch him snake through a very full hill with ease. AGAMA happy belated birthday! I know I dig my helmet from TLD, THANKS! Warren 2.0 No other explanation needed. Get it 2.0! Jack is always smiling! Shop guy WILL looking like a natural and taking 1st in his class! Congrats buddy! Track official Dave! This guy is always having fun at the races! So, I showed up a little late last night and managed to see this guy rocket off the start line and take what the announcer was calling the hole-shot and man did he look fast! Yes even legends from other 2 wheeled disciplines can't resist the fun of OTH. Last but not least a good guy who insisted on smiling too much.... LOL. That's a wrap see you at #10!
What happened to the "skinsuit?" Looks like someone finally gave Blake the "yup" guy a jersey to wear.
Blake cuts his hair and wears a jersey? What's this world coming to? I've known Blake a long time through moto and its great to see him out there.
Photos have been uploaded and are ready for purchase. This guy wants you to check them out. If you don't Giddy will throw his bloody elbow at you. http://www.tcnguyen.com/Galleries/Over-The-Hump-2013-Race-9/31055989_MJ9HDL#!i=2686415134&k=7GqXBtQ
