Photo update..... It's Thursday morning and we are better than half way through the pics for OTH#11. I hope to have them up late tonight or first thing Friday morning. Check back soon! http://plsphotography.smugmug.com/Sports2013
Did the older kids ride a different course? I was riding with my 5-year-old, and when we went across the land bridge, we made an immediate right. At the same time a couple of older kids were coming down the hill and joining the course. Not sure where the older kids were coming from. I was trying to figure out if maybe they did a slightly longer course. Or maybe I just cut the course with my youngest! Either way, Ava is super fast! I'm Charlotte's dad, and every week I tell Charlotte to try to keep up with Ava. Charlotte just looks at me and says, "it's not going to happen." Charlotte usually starts out a little ahead of Ava, but Ava passes her about 1/4 into the race and just motors away. Good times!
Uh-oh. I think they rode the same this week--I say think, lol. I know they split they kids a few weeks back but then went back to riding the same. I'll check with Linked Cycling--I might have to backpedal here. EDIT: Boast retracted a bit in my original post. Doh! Thanks for your kind words, Todd! See you all next week.
FINISHED!! Pictures are now posted from Tuesday's OTH#11. Over 1800 images so hopefully we got most everyone. Please spread the word as this is out last OTH race of 2013. Here's a link to the pics: http://www.plsphotography.com/Sports2013
Ava's speed is still worth boasting about! Wish we were going to be there next week so Charlotte could chase Ava again. Have fun!
That was Steve from Motovation Sports. He was out mostly shooting pix for the high school teams. http://www.motovationsports.com/2013/08/21/socal-high-school-racers-at-over-the-hump/?show=gallery
Thanks for the pictures Steve! I have a ton of pictures of my friends riding, none of myself. Thanks for being out there.
Can anyone tell me how long the Sport course laps were last week? Beginner course was long last week and was 5 miles. I'm going to move up to Sport for the final race and I'm trying to gauge the amount of pain I'll be putting my body through.
I believe it was just over 5 miles. There were only 2 splits and I would guess the laps were very close to the same distance for both classes.
I and a buddy have 15.4 for 3 laps at Race #11, one other has 15.2. For me, the 3rd lap is a mix of challenge, pain, and exhilaration. The course is pretty empty on the 3rd lap (at least for me due to my slower finishing times, lol) as all the beginners are off the course by then. I almost regressed to B4 but stayed in S4 the whole series and I'm glad I did. Many more guys should move up--70 to 80 guys in Beginners and a lot catch us in Sport?
So it all just boils down to one more lap of EXTREME PAIN. I'll also be moving to Sport for the final race as a preview for next year...:bang:
I met Marshal for the first time at OTH LA... after 8 races we got to know each other at the very last race. What a stand up guy! I vote for Marshal for STR ambassador... Dino is too busy fighting with Mike all the time. #-o
What tires are you guys running at OTH? I have a High Roller up front and a Specialized Captain in back, but when I hit all the sandy sections on the courses I loose all traction and start slipping.
For me, the sandiest sections are in the jungle. If you hit it with speed in a tall gear and pick unobstructed line, you should sail thru it regardless of tires. [i've run OTH in geax saguaro, geax barro, kenda karma]
