Tonight's lay out was off the HOOK, My son won hes race and he could not be any happier. I placed 2nd in a man's Course, Every week should be like so, Tough =) Tons of people to say hello and not enough time to do it in. all from STR, Strava, Local trails. Too bad its coming to an End.. Mario
Well things are heating up at the 10th race.. I can't believe how many people showed up tonight.. Great kids race and the family night always seems to be a hit. With only 2 races left the racers are going hard.. Great action and good to see so many riders making improvements each week Here are a few of my photos enjoy 685R1073 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr Slasher looking like a bmx racer 685R1072 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr Pre jump fast and smooth this was done to perfection 685R1066 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr Race Face 685R1035 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr Joel sitting one a wheel 685R1033 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr BIG STU! 685R1023 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr Welcome back from mammoth DJ 685R0990 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr always puts out 110% effort each race 685R0989 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr YUP 685R0985 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr How can you not have him in your top 5? 685R0975 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr Pre jump from another view 685R0973 by Fullerton Bikes, on Flickr 3 of OTH fastest guys going full speed
My son Peter and I came out and race again tonight. Peter did the Kids 6-8 and I race in B-3. I couldn't catch up to my son in his race until later part of the course which I take it as a good sign and that he is at least improving. I love the course setup for Beginners tonight which is very similar to last week but they also streamlined it a bit on both end of the course. Overall I think I also did better than last week but most importantly my son and I had a blast together tonight. Cheers,
Too afraid of tossing them...unless they were bacon cookies...that was the one part of the course I could make up time. Side note...thanks for the "beverage" hand-up on the lap 4 land bridge...got about half of it down before one of those speed bumps washed the rest of it over my face. It didn't hit me until the climb up from the lake...and then it hit hard for about a minute until the fog cleared near the top of the climb...I should know better by now. Not enough training to do that.
If someone were to want to put in 1 race, this late in the series, I have an etiquette question: Race beginner or sport? I usually do long distance (coup, traverse) and have dabbled in some OTH in the past, but no actual racing in almost 2 years now. I'm not out of shape, but by no means have I "trained" to race (no intervals, no going for 60 minutes hard without stopping, etc.). A few years back, I perhaps used to take place # 2 through 5 in a few OTH's a few years ago in Sport, but at an easier age class (29-). I feel like I might have a decent shot of doing well in beginner, but would not be practiced for the 3 lap pace of sport, like many of the racers who come every single week, to be competitive at all. Then again, given that I do have a few distance races under my belt in the past... is going beginner sandbagging? I mean, 60 min is one thing, but I could probably burn hard for 40 min and do much much better.
I had a Cookie and gain a spot on the Box =) It was a bigger dude from path bike shop (i think). You guys had tons of cookies and other post supplements - Thanks Path !!
My take on OTH race last night: 1. I definitely need to yell/cheer less... I can't talk this morning because I lost my voice. Or I need to train my vocal cords more. 2. Wear gloves when ringing a Shimano cow bell... I have blisters on both hands today (Thanks Shimano for the hat and cowbell) 3. Throw cookies at people instead of running along side of them trying to feed them into their mouths (Thank Path for the cookies) 4. Bring an extra shirt for after the race... I sweated through my shirt and hat from running up and down the hill cheering on people 5. Not too many racers want beer while racing... I don't get it. Free good beer... What's not to like???? 6. I think some of those fast racers are doping. Yes I called you out on it because some of you were passing people like they were standing still Overall... Congrats to the race. I had a great time. Thanks again to The Path for the water bottles, cool shades, cookies and those darn goldfish flavored like buffalo wings. Cheers.
People were shouting at me to "Take a cookie!" An intimidatingly large cookie was being waved in front of me. As a Beginner, I had to process whether I had the bike skills to take the cookie and eat the cookie, while not crashing or throwing up. I froze under the intense pressure and the moment was gone.
On the OTH subject: Tomorrow, (August 15th), OTH-LA is holding their LAST race of this season. The series winners will be decided. Even if you have not raced at all, this season, you can come out and race. Lots of fun for families, too. Clean off the OC fire road dust and come to the OTH-LA and race on trails and ST.
Mike, great photos!! Hope you can cut Dino and the guyz loose, so they can attend the last OTH-LA race, tomorrow night! I don't recall seeing any FB jerseys out here, all season!
Well if your an endurance racer you should have no problems doing sport or expert...there are way to many sandbaggers in the beginners races to start with ( I personally know 4 in my gruop that race other series in sports or expert class and race beg at OTH) I think you have an advanatge with the endurance, these races are more endurance then techinical.....give it a shot
I'm signed up...anyone want to carpool hit me up or need someone to go with them hit me up...I'm getting off work at 3:30 in City Of Industry. How is the parking situation at Castiac? can you park outside the park and ride in? I really don't feel like shelling out $11 to park
