I think at your weight you ought to look into different wheels.....especially if you are considering spending that much money. Those are good wheels but seems like the rear hub is the weak link.....at least they require a lot of lubing/maintenance. For that kind of money I'd get some Hope or Hadley Hubs custom built on your rim of choice....5.1's would be good ;)

I agree with Rob, it's a good wheelset but a bit pricey. you can definitely build something a bit better for less money. but if your dead set on the CrossMax XLs, I saw set hanging from the rafters of The Path today for $585 while picking up my new Highline =P~ . Might still be able to talk them down a little.

Yep, for that price you can get something better built at the Path.
    I second the Hope hubs.

    hope bulbs hubs
    dt 5.1 rims
sapim cx-ray spokes ( bladed and expensive, but SUPER strong), brass nipples
    36 hole, 3x laced

seriously strong wheels. ultra reliable, very serviceable. bling colors available.

might weigh abit more than the crossmax you were looking at, but i would rather go this route.

Thanks for the feedback and recommendations but I won't be buying a new wheelset. A comment that Armando made last night at the Loop reinforced something I already knew. That is to replace or upgrade when you need to; frankly it's the same advice I give other people but it's advice I tend to not heed when it involves shiny new things.

My wheelset is sturdy enough for my riding and I can use the money for that roadbike I've been thinking of buying....or that shiny new Epic my LBS has been trying to get me to buy ......or those Hope m4 brakes(I can justify this one)...you get the idea.

For a commuter I decided to start browsing Craigslist. I don't want to spend too much on something that might get stolen. I've seen a few older road bikes on there so that's probably the route I'll take with that venture.
