I am not advocating open carry. You asked for a practical reason to open carry and I gave you one. In the example I gave you, it was a legitimate business use. Do you see security guards carrying concealed? Do you see security guards hiding at a jewelry store? They are placed in a conspicuous place. You know why? Because they want to display as a deterrence. When you are protecting yourself or property, you do not lie in wait for an ambush. You want to deter opportunist and half baked robbers.

I have had training. As a matter of fact, not just fire arm training. Working for financial institutions, I have also had training for robbery, terrorist acts and what not. Deterrence is number 1 priority in preventing robberies. Working for a really big bank, we stationed armed guards in branches during the Occupy Movement fiasco. We also had corporate security as back up sitting in the lobby. Those were carrying concealed as the Occupy Movement had a knack of sneaking in and conducting flash protests. They turned stealthy, the company responded in kind.

I understand why a person would carry concealed. But in the example I gave, it does not serve the purpose.

BTW, would a thief really go after the open carry guy vs going for a person who appears not to be armed? Really, that's probably the stupidest thief ever. Thief always go for a the easiest target. Thats why gates work :)

Good point, but you won't be able to defend them or yourself either when a couple of convicted felons invade your house looking to rob, rape, and or kill.

So, has anyone learned anything they didn't know before opening this thread? Any new discoveries or breakthroughs?

I've learned that while my girlfriend would prefer I be more openly caring, I would do that at the expense of surprise.

When you get into the situation you will know. I can not use a blanket statement to cover all situations.
When you get into the situation you will know each scenario is unique.
That happens all the time, and I haven't drawn my weapon. I can still get away in my car or dial 911 if I feel threatened.
    Define "sketchy"
I am not willing to die or kill someone over money, my car, or even my bicycle.

I've seen a lot of these threads on different forums and it always makes me curious to know just how many people are "carrying" around me in my everyday life.

    *** ATTN MODS***

Shouldn't this thread be merged with the packing heat when you ride thread from a couple of months back?

    Equally disturbing...
