If you want to try "big" wheels I am sure I could get you on a loaner Kona Unit...we have a demo fleet of pain lol!
I'm taking my son to oaks tomorrow around 4. I'm bringing by SS if anyone wants to tag along. Looking for 6 miles with him. If you want to join up for a quick spin or start with us and end on your own... Bring your big wheels, torture device, ss, rigid or UNIT and meet at the trailhead by the boyscout camp. :-D Yes, I said UNIT.

Yesterday I climbed whiting / mustard with ss . Today going to the oaks at 5:15 ride time with group on my ss. Will be SS on Thursday at the loop. Man I need to break down and get new gear getting a little tired pushing 33x22. Any suggestions of faster pain ????
32x19 is my new favorite. I was running 34x16,17,18 when i raced OTH in the geared class, now that I am racing int the SS class I don't need to worry about getting dropped on the flats. I have several cogs I will let you try till you find what you need 14-18 there just the cheap stamped ones. just let me know
32x20. Its all I know... :?: I'm considering 32x22, any thoughts? Remember, I'm still really new to this.
Pick a gear you can live with which means you may spin out on the flats, but you can at least climb hills vs getting off and walking it because you can't turn the cranks over. I'm running a 34x22 on a 29". I ran a 21t on the back when I first got it, but started to feel pains on my knees that I had from when I used a 34x18 on 26"(I've had bad knees since 2009). Sure I can clean all the climbs with the 34x18 on a 26" bike or 34x21 on a 29" bike, but my knees suffered for it and now will never be the same again..., hence the 34x22 I'm using now.
Much appreciated feedback. I'm doing ok so far on the 32x20 but want to keep my options open and be well aware of part combos. I'm considering picking up a 22t cog just to have as they are so easy to change!
if you can make most of your climbs at 32x20 then don't go any easier.i climbed most of mustard hill in whiting on 32x22 on my first ride with a few breaks, already thinking of going to a smaller cog in the rear.
I need to work on my pace and technique... 32x20 is easier than my langster with 44x16 climbing newport coast drive! I do like the idea of extra cogs for different trails. I did whiting stopping one on the lower section and 6 times climbing mustard and none going up to Marks bench... Again, my technique was charge everything until I was spent, rest 10sec and continue.
