One tends to make funny sounds when you get the wind knocked out and can't catch your breath... you tend to end up panting trying to get air in. I've broken ribs before and know how that feels.. I was relieved and believed it was just a very bad bruise....until I had to ride out... that hurt a lot (ever see a grown man cry??? ...You almost did yesterday and I have a pretty high pain tolerance level. Really sore today but the advil, ice and jacuzzi have really helped and I can tell it's just a bad rib and muscle bruise ... I'll be back! (Terminator voice)...
Hi Greg, Sorry to hear your hurting. As another OLDER rider, I know the recoveries take a lot longer than when we were young bucks. I'm still hurting from my separated shoulder injury that I did five weeks ago at Aliso. My wife has me taking glucosamine and fish oil for soft tissue recovery; seems to be working. Heal fast!
Hi Greg, glad your "OK" so to speak. sounds like a bad case compression sickness...OUCH my Christi is just getting over six separated ribs, she hit one of those gravity vortexes we have here in Arizona. get better fast! and don't make me come to no Hospitals to see you....you know how I hate HOSPITALS :] Hope you feel better soon Cheers, Billy
Yeah, I can relate to the time it takes to heal as you get older. Just doesn't seem fair. Get well soon O Senior Grasshoppa.
I was shopping trailrunning shoes a week after my shoulder injury. I was anticipating a few months off the bike requiring physical therapy at worst case. Fortunately it was only a fracture which will only take 4-6 weeks to heal and I'll be back 100% after that. Hope you get better soon.
Greg, sorry to hear about your crash, but glad it's nothing that will keep you down and out for long....I'll be looking for you on the trails when I get back
Thanks everybody for the kind words.... I've got to go to the doctors this morning and get an x-ray as my back keeps going in spasms when I move the wrong way or take a deep breah. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it is only a deep muscle bruise and not cracked or broken ribs... or worse. I'll update when I know more.
Was there any snoring involved? Seriously Greg I wish you a speedy recover. :bang: I'm sure you hair enjoys being out of the spot light temporarily. I took a little digger yesterday a Snow Summit and the knee is a bit swollen, but I'll be ready to roll in a few days.
The verdict is in.... broken ribs! It took them a while to find it as the back ribs are harder to see in x-rays but the radiologist confirms two broken ribs... the good news is that there was no kidney damage and the ribs are not separated and will heal straight... the bad news, it will take 6 - 8 weeks to completely heal. No heavy breathing for at least 2 weeks. Ranger Nancy said, look on the bright side, you get to hike with me now for a while. Also picked up anti-inflamatories and muscle relaxers ... starting to feel much better tonight, although it sure hurts when I laugh.... so you grasshoppers are going to have to get along without me for a month or so.... but, I'll be back!.... just to keep you all in line!
Ouch. Sorry buddy, Im just getting over a couple crash injuries myself. Badly sprained ankle and wrist. Been out for 2 weeks now. Hang in there!
Sorry to hear about the ribs, but it will be good to see both of you together on the trail again!! Heal up quick!
