Thanks guys for the responses. We ended up parking off of Valley Vista. No worries about the crowds at Cooks and added a little more to the ride. No complaints here!

I rode past there yesterday (Saturday) around 10:45 am and there were 25 plus mtb vehicles in the dirt lot with the fence around it, (off of Live Oak).

This sounds like the best of the ideas here. Any comments on that? Or the parking lot of Concourse Park which also serves as one of the entry points into Whiting.

Just park at Cooks as far right in the parking lot as you can. SIMPLE. If the gates closed, park as close to it as possible. Know that weekends are busy there and plan your ride accordingly.

Parking on Ridgeline narrows the road and makes it unsafe for those of us who ride up or down it. I'd suggest parking on Santiago Canyon Road just up from the base of the Grade as an alternative to Cooks. Wide shoulder and plenty of spots.

    That's what I do. I don't mind the climb back to my truck, it's a nice cool-down.

Okay, so what's the deal? This thread keeps coming up as if Cooks Corner is banning cyclists from parking there. Since this thread has started I have park in the fenced off parking lot at least 3 times with absolutely no hassle.

I was there last weekend too. Those "written warnings" that you are talking about were only stating that this coming weekend the parking lot will be closed for a private event. That's it, no conspiracy to kick out cyclist.

Rwanda 50 won't be there any more. Maybe the Rwanda ride out-grew the capacity or they don't want cyclists?

Then you will never be CC ready, my friend! What does Pain Freak's statement say: You have to appreciate the climb to enjoy the descent (or somethin like that). Put away the Vagasil and go climb!! ;)

Last week we parked at the bottom of Crystal Canyon Rd. Parking is allowed except for two Mondays a month. After our ride we had lunch at Cook. I asked them about parking and they said parking is for customers only and that they have towed in the past. They said that if you drop off your driver's license before your ride and then eat there after, then you can park there. IMO it is best to park on Crystal. BTW the burger was not bad.

    A) I'm not leaving my license behind
    B) What are they going to do, demand a receipt or impound cars? Order or you don't get your license back? I know it's their land and I appreciate the courtesy of the open parking, but that would just be a silly and short-sighted approach. I wonder if they'd go around making sure every biker who parks there actually orders too?

Best line of the week on STR!

It is reasonable to assume that everyone who drives there in a motorized vehicle is intending to spend time at Cooks Corner.

The written warning I saw mentioned nothing about certain dates.....They said this parking is for cooks corner customers only. Im going to play it safe and just park on ridgeline. Plenty of parking there

Oh, I climb. I'm just not fast, but I don't stop. And no, I will most likely never be CC or VQ ready as a weekend-only warrior. But, c'mon Vagisil? Really? Y'know we lumberjacks don't need that. We use wood chips, chainsaw lube and sap in our flannel underwear!

Sorry, let's get back to discussing where we can park. I always park at Wahoos and always add Whiting. STT - Luge is NOT ENOUGH CLIMBING FOR ME!!!! No, really...
