Anyone running one? Happy with it? Any creaks or slippage? I'm thinking of putting one on my El Comandante as the Bushnell EBB in there now slipped quite a bit during VQ. Niner EBB
Got one back in December. Works really well. My EBB was in need of replacement and I went with the Niner EBB. No slippage, creeks or anything coming from it so far. Granted, I've only ridden it 2-3 times on off training days, but worked fine. FYI - be sure to face your BB shell (like the instructions say). I didn't and it was a pain to get the CL right. Do what the instructions tell you, and you'll avoid my stupid mistake.
Looks interesting. Here's the tech doc. http://www.ninerbikes.com/downloadfly.aspx?download=downloads/nin_EBB_install.pdf
It looks like it effectively converts your BB shell from 68mm to 73. I'm pretty sure I have enough clearance now between my Phil Wood BB cups along the spindle to the crank arms to push the cups out another 5mm...so I'm going to order up & find out!
I thought maybe I saw some threads in that thing earlier, but now I'm not sure. Does the bottom bracket not actually thread on? Or does the crank just sort of hold everything together?
I started running one on my Niner One9 last week. The old one creaked so bad no one would ride with me. My wife said it sounded like a cheap motel room. I had some trouble getting the new one dialed in (the EBB not the wife). There was some slippage and some creaking but I think that's resolved now (the EBB not the wife) I'll give it a couple more rides before claiming total satisfaction but I am optimistic (the EBB etc). I'm riding tomorrow and Thursday and then one day this weekend. If it holds up I'll check back in and let you know.
its a few grams heavier than the original ebb of theirs and yeah it has a pinch bolt of sorts that once you loosen, you can move the whole bb. no need to flip the bike over to get at any screws so its much easier to adjust on the trails no real complaints besides the weight
Rode this morning and it creaked pretty bad. No slippage but the creaking is really annoying. I'll take it in and see if there is anything else that can be done.
yeah, I thought the same thing. they must be prototypes. I have one in the mail now from Niner - I'll post up an install report. EDIT: just came across this pic, where you can clearly see the threads: From the tech doc: Apply a small film of grease or antiseize compound on bottom bracket cup threads, then install bottom bracket, cranks, chain and rear wheel.
from mtbr: They are basically the same weight, the new system is about 10 grams heavier with the stainless steel bolt though. Replace with TI and they are roughly the same at 115-120 grams. Cheers, Brett Niner Bikes __________________
sooooooooooo....... it turns out that this Niner EBB is 55mm. My Ventana shells are 54mm ID. Rather than resorting to cave-man mechanics I'm concluding that it is not a match meant to be. But hey, a new One-9 is merely $770 more. Uh oh...
biocentric EBB I've got a new sir9 w/biocentric. I have a cartridge BB and it is a challenge! niner says this style BB will work, BUT... The niner clamp bolt squeezes the EBB halves against the BB shell but torquing the BB cartirdige left cup pushes them apart again! Result: gaps = dust & water inside = loose EBB + loose chain & noise!! niner says the trick is not to torque the cartridge left cup to the point where it spreads the EBB halves. Those of you with external bearing set-ups should be fine as these tend to squeeze everything together. It's a great set-up when clean, though. Just thought I'd give up my experience to all y'all...
Niner One 9 2012 with Niner Biocentric BB I'm unable to open the tension bolt using the standard PT Allen Tool. Is the thread regular or left (reversed) i.e. in order top open the bolt do I tun it CCW ? Also what tools are you using top open and close the bolt ?
