I though the first lap is the fast one and the second is the newb, as probably they will be slower taking more breaks

I thought the first lap can be newbie friendly too, if we are just gonna do Beverly to water tower then down A Side for the first lap.

I volunteer to take a lead/sweep position. I am not the fastest in the world, but I am more than happy to do either.

We are going to go the speed of the slowest rider, don't worry about holding anyone up! This is a no-drop ride. Come on out!

Ok, check it out... I got a chance to get out and ride today and A-line is pretty overgrown with those purple spiky balls (thistles) so I say skip it and do the fireroad/tank/7th/cowtrail/college trail at 8ish. That route would avoid almost all of the aforementioned plants from hell and provide some shade (7th street)..... :-k

whatever route works for me. i do think that we should just eliminate the 2 start times. i can't speak for everybody, but i find it confusing. i'm sure there are others that are equally confused on what time to be there.

i'm confused as well on the time...even on the rsvp there is one time listed (8) but several other times mentioned throughout this thread.
Please someone verify the time as there are probably other riders who want to join in but need soome clarification.

    thanks...

    I agree 100%

:-k If this is the route for the Noob ride to be back by the 9:30 start time then I'm even more of a Noob than I thought. #-o

I've never timed myself, but I'm guessing it would take me about 2.5 hours to do that route. :?: I am a SLOW climber though.

Noob/social rides should have only "1" start time. If the route isn't long enough for you.....maybe your nit as noob as you think. You can always go out for extra milage afterward.

All multiple start ties do is confuse everyone. And the rides always leave late.

You guys are making this way more difficult than it needs too be.

Pick a route....pick a start time.....and schedule it......people will make it or they won't. you are never gonna make it work for everyone.

    I agree with Pato.

The climb back out of Cow Trail is hard and definitely not newbie friendly. I know am not a newbie in the true sense of the word, but I have been off the bike for almost 2 weeks now and I know I'll be gasping for air and pushing my bike on Cow Trail. IMHO, I suggest removing it as part of the ride. I still believe the best route would be the Beverly Trailhead - 7th Ave Loop - Water Tower - 3B's - A-Side Loop. But since A-Side is overgrown, we can just go down the main fireroad instead.

And +1 on what blindman_22 and mtnbikej said. We should just have one start time.

    Just my 2 cents :)

I'm also confused of the start time and route. Why is a newb/social ride have to be so confusing? I think this confusion will certainly affect participation, as it seems that many of us want to participate, but don't know when or where.

Otherwise, my wife and I may just ride Turnbull on our own while some of you guys duke it out to determine the time and the route.

Who cares if the trail is overgrown, this isn't road biking.

I'll take some pictures later today so you can see why. Even with carbon knuckles, leg and arm gear they get ya
You can park where it says parking on beverly and we'll all meet up where it says "gate". Hope that helps squash any confusion.

As for newb routes, I haven't found many newbs who've enjoyed the 7th street loop.

Although somewhat short, my wife likes this route below (in red) on her singlespeed. She still walks part of the switchbacks up to the road, although she rides what she can. So this is our usual SS route.
