So now I see courtesy of the Weather Channel that rain is due friday night - 6pm to 12AM to 6am - it goes from 40% to 70% to 50% chance of rain.

I am pretty sure this is going to muck up Blackstar but I am willing to go early saturday morning and take a look....or do we try another venue...any thoughts.....not very happy with the weather right now...

What holds up to water and is not "too far" for the OC crowd.

I doubt my suggestion fits that lol

San Juan Trail.... after a rain or during the rain the DG just gets better. I do understand that its a little harder to be social on a single track Vs. riding side-by-side on a road, and its not a newbie type of ride.

The sun is out and shinny now but I heard we still expecting another big rain on Friday night. Seems to me this is Rain or Shine event.
But I think it would be nice if someone can volunteer to check the trail condition as an update info after rained all night.
I live in Oceanside, signed up to be there but I still haven't decided whether should I take my 7 years old daughter with me or not due to the trail condition as some peeps mention above. Yes I never been there before and I think it would be a bad situation for us as a newbie have to walk our bike to the top because of clay mud. And so far I didn't see any plan of the ride is gonna be postpone either. Please keep us posted! Thx.

a suggestion for a change of venue might be the wash to begging of holy jim and maybe a bit of holly jim till it gets difficult? Last time me and excercyst rode it right after the rain and it wasnt bad at all. Only problem was car traffic and Im sure a group will slow drivers down. We got dirty but not harder than normal. It might be nicer than maple just because when I did maple I would not consider it a begginer ride. That pavements a real bummer to start the ride up and then it gets a bit steeper ( maybe Im just lazy). Just a suggestion though

Not looking good gents. We could move this to Maple and head up to 4C but thats more climbing for the newb and also parking. Parking for this many people there is kinda a nightmare. San Juan is not newb friendly.

Neil, waiting to hear your thoughts I'm open to trying BS unless it pours tonight!

Sycamore is far - but WORTH the drive, can handle the crowd, something for everyone, holds up great in the rain, etc....

Was going to suggest it earlier but did not want to 'jinx' the rain. Neil, you're the leader here... The other suggestions, e.g., Holy Jim, San Juan, etc. are all single track and will not support a group of this size - both are not really newbie friendly either. No easy place for groups - sycamore offers all that...and a bag of chips .

Let's just do a gnar parking lot ride somewhere. ;) I will not be going to SJT....it is soooooo NOT newb friendly and I'd like my hubs to have fun, not be cursing me for all the climbing. I submit maple springs to the end of the pavement......just my $0.02. Extra credit to 4C for those who need it.

And Neil and all the other speedies can just do repeats and be EXTRA social!

So after much deliberation I think its best to postpone until next Saturday, the 22nd. I am sure the date change may not work for all but as much as I would love to go for it tomorrow I will feel terrible if we do it and the peanut butter conditions prevail....I want everyone to enjoy the ride up and down and all that goes with a big ride like this.

To your idea Julie:), I am down for Sycamore tomorrow and I will have Maddie with me SO if anyone wants to hook up and do a 9am start at Sycamore to at least turn some pedals let me know!

Hopefully see you all next saturday at the gate and thanks for the understanding!

That's what I thought so too...Sycamore. But I guess it's not gonna be easy like flipping our hands to change the event location since a lot of us who signed up already committed to ride at B* and we need to remember this event has been cross posted in other Mtb community and groups. Change the event location in last minute would be a bad idea. Thanks Neil. That's a WISE call! For those who want to ride Sycamore can join Neil tomorrow...
