Greetings from Lancaster, the taint of LA County.

I'm one hour from Mt Pinos and halfway to Vegas, as I like to joke.

Name is James. My best friends in high school called me Fetus, because of my big a$$ forehead.

I've been riding mountain bikes since I was 15. My first real mountain bike was a Schwinn MP21 aluminum frame bike in 1991. It had Biopace chainrings, my all time favorite. I worked several hours at McDonald's flipping burgers and upselling supersize fries to save up for it.

I am a SF Bay native, stationed in Okinawa and Oceanside with the Marines. I took a bike whenever I could. I rode a lot with guys between Oceanside and Carlsbad where the trails are probably gone now.

I'm 35 now and stuck with the typical family and work obligations. I envy those who can bike and make a living out of it. I spend more time daydreaming and reading about riding than I actually do riding. I work odd hours, nights and weekends so it's tough to join all the usual group rides I see posted.

I usually ride Mt Pinos, Liebre Mountain, Towsley, the Santa Monicas, and Whiting Ranch when I can. I also do Big Bear several times a year and Mammoth once or twice a year.

My quiver of bikes hanging from the roof of my garage consists of a 1996 GT Avalanche LE in bare aluminum (Can't bring myself to sell), a 2003 Spec Enduro, a 2007 Stumpy FSR Expert, and a 2007 Stumpy HT Comp.

Look forward to joining some of you guys on rides sometime in the near future.

    Welcome

I still have on old Trek mountain bike with biopace chain rings. I tried to explain what it was to the bike mechanic at performance (who is about 22), and he stared at me blankly like I was crazy.

I think I got that bike in 1989. But it is still running strong as a commuting bike, biopace and all.

    :welcome:
