The new Turtle Ridge trail officially opened this past Saturday.

I got in a ride yesterday. It's approximately 1.97 miles long. Climbing out of Bommer Canyon, the first mile or so is a pretty steady ascent with numerous switchbacks. Once you get up onto the ridgeline, it's a little more rolling up and down. The view from up top is fantastic.

I didn't get too far past where the trail ends up in Turtle Ridge due to lack of daylight, but it seems like it connects to some sort of horse/jogging dirt path. Not sure where that eventually ends up, so I'll have go do some more exploring next time.

I was there yesterday as well around the same time as you. Where you riding a SS?
Nice addition to the Bommer Canyon trail system. I went all the way to the end and it connects with a dirt path that parallels the houses and the 73.

Hmm..I was. Were you on a Rig? Or were the guy riding w/o a helmet? :)

Any loop opportunity with that dirt path? Or does it just end somewhere in the neighborhood? I wonder if there are any long term plans for additional trails on that side. There were a few Closed Area signs that kind of looked like it could be a trail.

Edit: Posted at same time ^^^^.

Someone made a segment of the climb in STRAVA. Nice climb. It won't be long before someone is fighting out the KOM/QOM on the climb. Could be some issues if it's a two-way trail to nowhere. I think the trail you mention it dumping out in may take you through the housing development there. You'd think they'd make it loop back to the parking lot by Turtle Rock/Shady Canyon.

I like the new trail. It is a good climb and provides a quick loop before it gets completely dark out. Suits me nicely when I ride from UCI. I wish it hooked up with LCWP though.

How is Bommer Canyon for a Cross bike? One of my favorite "road" loops is around Back Bay, Mountain to Sea, over to Shady Canyon/Quali Hill, and back through UCI. I was wondering if I could hop onto the dirt at Quail Hill for some added fun. I have never been. I thought it was docent only or is that just part of it?

The lower section of the new trail is pretty nice. Not sure what happened on the last 100-200 ft of vertical. It's like 2 different trail designers were used. 1 knew something about mountain biking and the other was a hiker aficionado. Like the lower, hate the upper! (not that I'm a complainer, love any new trail!).

Thanks to all who've worked on this trail. I've ridden it twice as a loop. Once climbing and once decending. Great trail both ways. I loop it using the pathway behind the houses that comes out onto Summit Ridge in back of the rest rooms. It's alittle hidden, but if you're climbing Summit Ridge road, on the right there's a restroom and if you go behind it, you'll pick up a path that leads directly to Turtle Ridge. If you get to Turnleaf road, you just missed it.

I was riding the Rig. It looks like you could do a loop with the dirt path, probably back down to Shady Cyn Drive, but the out and back option looks more fun.

I ride my Cross bike there from time to time. You can ride Quail Trail to Serrano, under the 73 and back through LCWP and Bommer. The trails are totally rideable on a X bike.

I have had time to hit this trail twice now. The first time I rode it as a climb out of Bommer and it is a pretty good SS climb. Really had me working hard especially at the top. Rode it again yesterday and I came in from Summit Park into the gated community and rode it all downhill. Really fun and would put it between Meadows and Mentally Sensative. Not as fast and Meadows but not as steep as MS.

No idea -- saw it for the first time today. They have a sign hanging from two strands of stainless cable strung across the trail. The sign said something about vandalism and will be opened after repairs.

What a shame! I was there on Sunday. I hope the actions of a few idiots don't ruin it for everybody else. I was feeling really lucky to have a nice little trail close to home for a quick ride...

This is a bummer. I finally had enough time this friday to ride it. Guess I gotta go somewhere else!

I just rode by it an hour ago. It seems to be open again.
