I just got a Specialized Roubaix this weekend and I am looking into bottom bracket protection from a dropped chain.

I saw this from K Edge...

    and Jumpstop...

I like the idea of the Jumpstop but i don't think the clamp will work with my frame. Does anyone have any experience with these or have another suggestion.

Not really that big of a problem.

Set your front derailluer correctly, and it shouldn't drop down.

Exactly, a properly adjusted FD wont drop a chain. The K Edge is nice but way overpriced for a sliver of aluminum and bolt.

Though i suppose doing this will allow you to not mind your chain position from being too lax before you start an extended, choppy descent. That's where I drop chain if I'm not mindful of tension.

I've only had carbon road bikes for the last 10 years and it's never been a problem. In fact it's not a problem on the carbon mtb either. But if it gives you piece of mind, go for it.

In a perfect world, where everything is adjusted correctly, you probably don't need one. However, my world isn't perfect, so I have a chain catcher on both my mountain bike and my road bike. It has kept my chain from sliding onto the carbon during a MTB crash and is cheaper than a repair. I will always have one on my carbon bikes.

^ I have one from Rotor. It looks very similar to the gold/yellow K Edge in your first photo. I got mine at twohubs.com, but any local shop should have something similar.

I've been using a strip of Gorilla Tape as a chainstay protector for about a year. The tape is banged up a bit, but not worn through at all. I think it would work quite well to protect your frame in the event of a dropped chain. Plus, it's a lot lighter and less noticeable than a chunk of aluminum dangling off the bike.

I ordered one off of a very popular auction website. Here is a pic...If you want more info on it feel free to PM me. I know if everything is adjusted right the chain should not drop, and i am very meticulous when it come to shifting performance and adjustments, but s*it happens. It was about half the price of the others I saw. I'll get some pics of it when i get it installed.

Here is a pic of the chain catcher installed. I probably should have put the chain on the small chainring for the pic. I used a spacer during setup to get a 3mm gap between the chain and the catcher.

I used to have a Jump-Stop on my 1x9. It was easy to set up and worked as advertised.
