    Hello, I am part of a group that is starting a High School Mountain Biking League. I need contacts in local high schools, teachers and students that are interested. We are a partner of the very successful NorCal league. Please contact me via private message.

    The SoCal High School Mountain Bike League works to establish and maintain safe, quality high school mountain bike programs. The League is responsible for establishing a climate that will:
    • Provide students who have the desire to mountain bike with the coaching and camaraderie that will help them achieve both competitive and non-competitive cross-country mountain biking goals in a safe and enjoyable manner;
    • Develop an awareness of what it is to be an amateur athlete that is both gracious and respectful to their community;
    • Create an environment in which they may discover new friendships and find role models;
    • Guide students towards learning new skills and disciplines, and spread the foundations of mountain bike racing across the U.S.;
    • Foster a responsible attitude toward the use of trails and wilderness;
    • Promote the value of cycling to our community as a mode of transportation and as a life long sport.

    thanks.

    I made it a "sticky". It'll be a "sticky" in the General Section for as long as you want. Thanks for your advocacy. Keep us posted on the progress of this program.

    This is very cool. I hope that it works out and you have enough interest to get a league started.

    I teach high school in Chula Vista. I think it's a great idea...just don't think that it's possible in my school or district.

    Are you targeting more of the OC schools or all SoCal?

    We're looking to LA down to San Diego. The Norcal league started very small, some teams just a few riders. Curious why it may not work in your district?

    I followed the link to the NorCal league and read "About" and the "Mission Statement." It seems as if this is a public high school school initiative only. Is that correct?

    Sorry if I sounded pessimistic. Most of our students live at or below federal free/reduced lunch incomes.

    With sponsorships, though, it's another story.

    thats very true, Hence why i got a job and bought myself and built up a black cat :wave:

    Sponsorships would be cool thoguh :bang:
    Its like an opportunity to make this a carer somewhat..
    If it does become a race team, it could potentially offer chances to get scholarships to mountain biking schools with teams, and it can only go from there..

    ....dang- you kids today got it good....back in the day we had to ride fixies, with solid tires, 40 miles one way, over rocks, blah blah blah......;)

    What better way to propperly educate and stimulate young fresh minds and riders.

    This is very way cool.
