New iPhone being announced today!

Teardown of iPhone 4: 512MB RAM Confirmed and Other Notes


iFixit has managed to obtain and post a tear down (in progress) of the new iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 isn't due for release until Thursday, June 24th, but many customers started receiving their orders as early as today. A few notes of interest:



- Storage capacity is not etched on the back
- iPhone OS 4, build 8A293
- 3.7V 1420 mAh Li-Polymer battery
- Screen is believed to use Corning Gorilla Glass
- A4 Part Numbers confirm 512MB of RAM rather than 256MB found in the prototypes

Aside from the hardware evidence, one reader sent us this screenshot from iPhone diagnostic app Checkup run on a new iPhone 4:



Checkup also shows that the iPhone 4 does have 512MB of RAM, but is unable to identify the speed of the processor.

 

I updated mine yesterday but did anyone else notice that the wallpaper that appeared to be a Van Gogh is now gone?

 

Updated my 3G last night and so far no issues.

Whats up with the screen yellowing

 

I fell victim to the "server crash debacle" of last week. I tried about a dozen times throughout the day to pre-order, the closest of which hung about half way through the order process. Oh well... @#$% it. I resigned myself to missing out on the hype and decided that I didn't need a new gizmo that badly anyway.

Fast forward to this afternoon... on a whim, I called the Apple Store, told them of the truncated sign up, and asked if i was "on the list." He looked at his list, sounded confused, and then went off to talk to his supervisor. When he came back, he asked me a few more questions about who I was and what phone I wanted, and then told me that they would have a phone waiting for me tomorrow.

Was I on the list originally, or was the guy just super cool and added me while we were on the phone? I'll never know, but I'm left with the impression that the dude went out of his way to solidify the gratitude and loyalty of a customer. Apple is to computers what The Path is to bikes.

Sync'n now... my old 3G with iOS4 is done, no regular or DFU restore helped fix the crashing... hopefully in a few days they'll have a patch.

Happy to get the 4 finally!

 

Hundreds of people in line at Brea this morning, hundreds when my wife called at lunchtime, and hundreds right now. Depite having a reservation, there's no bloody way I'm going to wait in line for hours. Instead, I can be working... Or riding... Or sitting in my beanbag watching infomercials.

 

Rusty Iron, I agree with you on that one! the one in Rancho cucamonga is the same...damn packed! I am thinking i might try and go tomorrow..

 

Why didn't you guys get it shipped to the your houses?

 

Glad I'm not an Apple nerd. I just don't get the hype and glad I don't.

But I have to ask, if everyone wants the phone tech and don't care about the hype/cool factor of buying it, why not just go to Radio Shack and get it there - without the wait?

 

From everything I read, Radio Shacks and even Walmarts had only a few units, so your chances are slim to none. Personally, I think some people just want to wait in line for some odd reason.
