A while back, there was some talk of a flag fund for the Luge flag. Is that still going or does anyone know who is talking care of this. There is a Marine flag up there right now but it is severely torn.

I'll contribute the first $20 for a new flag and we can organize a ride to replace it in the next few days.

    Lets get this done!!

Paypal donation address is: [email protected]

What happened to the last one? I heard it was still in good shape for the Veteran's Day ride and thought the replacement was waiting for Memorial Day if it held up. I hadn't heard that it was ragged. I donated that one. Was hoping it would've lasted. BTW, the last one was an American flag, not a Marine.

Yeah, the current flag is done. I would have just replaced it but I remember someone here talking about buying a few flags and banking them for when they were needed??

    Anyone remember??

I used to buy the heavy duty one that was made of canvas(bought 3 of them) that cost about $35.00 and would last about 5-6 months. We had it worked out so we would replace it on Memorial Day and then again on Veteran's Day which is 6 months apart. I also replaced the log books there about once a year, but I haven't been a part of the flag ceremony since Nov 2011. I guess others wanted to take charge so I let them.

I'll be happy to be the guardian of the Flag again, but those really good flags get expensive when you're the only one contributing. What's kinda of a shame is that there are hundreds of riders who ride this route and that would buy plenty of flags for 2 or 3 replacements, but we can't find 35 people to donate $1 each to buy 1 flag.

If you ride the loop on Thursday nights, you can always give it Dino. He'll get it to me. Thanks!

I got twenty on it. It would be nice to have a donation jar at Cooks for the mtbikers to donate.

OK....I'm going to set up a "Replace the Luge Flag" fund. I will set up an online donation (max $5 donation) and an in-person donation box.

I will organize the rides to replace the flag and hopefully we can get this done in a patriotic way!!

    More details to follow...

I'll pay for a flag, if someone wants to actually go get the proper one. Let's put it up on the day first day of DST (Sunday 3/10/13?).

Do any of you guys who will put up a new flag have a paypal? I'll send over twenty. I'm not local enough or ride the luge enough to put one up. But I would sleep better if we had a nice flag up there.

I am setting this up as we speak. Later today there will be a Paypal "Luge Flag Fund" account. There will also be two in-person donation boxes set up at both Path locations.

The Paypal account will have a maximum donation of $5 and the in-person will be $1. I will procure the flags and there will be two annual rides to replace them. This is exactly what Gene used to do but I'm just going to take care of it now.

I will update this thread when I have it all set up.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

OK....I have a PayPal address set up for [email protected]. I need to verify the address in the next few days but the account will accept funds now. I have personally donated the maximum allowed of $5. Feel free to electronically donate starting now...

I will have the in person donation boxes set up at The Path in about a week. I had to order the acrylic boxes so we look legit. My plan is to set these up in a few of the shops starting with The Path.

The rides....I will be replacing the current Marine flag tonight with a Nylon flag for the next few weeks. Once we have the funds available, I will order a few nice canvas units and schedule a fun ride to retire and replace the existing Flags.

So...I'll be back tonight with an update and pics.

Will the new flags be USA flags? I have nothing against any branches of the military but I prefer to honor everyone and not just 1 group. (I don't think the Marines were responsible for liberating the Luge.)

Yes, I plan on running USA flags up there for a while. Then if there is some interest, we can rotate out different flags for different branches of the military and so on.

Let's just see if anyone really wants to donate to the USA flag fund first...
